Louis Koo Is Probed On “Back to the Past” Release Date

During a promotional event for his recent film Hit N Fun <臨時決鬥>, actor-director Louis Koo (古天樂) was asked about the release date of Back to the Past <尋秦記>, the highly anticipated A Step into the Past movie sequel. Acknowledging the public’s long-standing anticipation, he dived into the challenges of releasing a film with this particular theme.
Louis is Startled By Viewer
Louis was asked the question when thanking fans for supporting the boxing-themed festive comedy which he also starred in. “I don’t know! No idea, let me explain. The release schedule depends not only on the Hong Kong market but also mainland Chinese market. In China, what other films are competing at the same time will also be considered. You know how crazy it is now, some movies can make over five billion yuan in a single week! We need to align the timing and schedule properly before we can set a release date,” he said.
Upon hearing the staggering box office figure, an audience member suddenly shouted out, “That can’t be real!” which startled Louis, who responded with a surprised and bewildered expression. The host quickly stepped in to clarify that such conclusions shouldn’t be made so easily.
Fans Advised to Keep a Close Lookout
While he did not give a direct answer regarding Back to the Past’s release date, his optimism reassured fans who have been eagerly awaiting the film. He emphasized that the movie is only waiting for the right slot to be arranged by the distributor.
Koo also recalled his experience at the Hong Kong International Film & TV Market (FILMART) in March 2022, where he learned on the spot that Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In <明日戰記> would be released in May, leaving him with just over a month for promoting the big-budget epic. Thankfully, the surprise ultimately paid off with outstanding box office results.

Wasn’t this movie made like 3 years ago it feels like…and yeah I’m totally waiting for it.
Maybe he’s hoping to drive anticipation for the film. It’s impossible to not find any open movie slots. He better do it soon, though. The longer he waits, the more likely the film will be outdated by the time it airs. If it’s not a classic, it’ll bomb
