Maggie Shiu Makes TVB Comeback

Many former TVB actresses including Charmaine Sheh (佘詩曼), Jessica Hsuan (宣萱), and Tavia Yeung (楊茜堯) have returned to TVB to film dramas in recent years. Maggie Shiu (邵美琪), 59, is the latest actress to make a comeback.

The last time Maggie filmed a TVB drama was 2019’s My Life as a Loan Shark <街坊財神>. In new drama Undercover Girl <臥底嬌娃>, Maggie and Eddie Kwan (關禮傑) will play an upper-class couple. The pair worked together in 1987’s historical drama The Conspiracy <飲馬江湖> and other projects.

Eddie recalled, “We worked together in Shanghai on a theater production called I Have a Date with Spring <我和春天有個約會>. We also went to Taiwan to film a series with producer Stanley Fung (馮淬帆). Everyone is very happy that Maggie is back at TVB. We’re really good friends and work well together because we discuss everything. We already tried our costumes and I’m excited to see what chemistry we can bring.”

Maggie and Eddie’s daughter will be portrayed by Yumi Chung (鍾柔美). She will play a character similar to herself as she likes to sing, dance, and has dreams of joining a girl group. Other cast members include Kelly Cheung (張曦雯), Jeannie Chan (陳瀅), Yuki Law (羅毓儀), and Mark Ma (馬貫東).

Before filming starts, Jeannie and Kelly travelled to Greece and Thailand respectively. Jeannie is very happy to work with Maggie, “I really like watching her act. Although it will be a comedy, the producer said I won’t be in charge of the comedic portions and I’ll only show my tough side. It feels very refreshing because there are many cast members I have not worked with before.”

Kelly will play a psychologist who is very different from her past characters. “When I worked on comedies, the filming atmosphere was especially happy. It’ll be my first time working with this cast. I saw Maggie many years ago and I hope we have more scenes together so I can learn from her.”

Mark has been heavily promoted by TVB since winning The Most Improved Actor Award in January. Given many opportunities, he said, “I’m also confident in myself. The producer is great. The last time I worked with him, he gave me a role as the God of Bad Luck which completely changed me.” This time, Mark will play an undercover police officer with a strong sense of justice. On the surface, he appears as a playboy but faces a lot of pressure internally. “I ride a motorcycle and can fight well in the drama and so I’ve been going to the gym to build muscle. I exercise regularly and know how to quickly gain muscle, but it’s really tiring working out every day.”
