Matt Damon, Andy Lau Impressed with Lu Han’s Popularity
The upcoming Zhang Yimou (张艺谋) film The Great Wall <长城> held a press conference in Beijing to promote the film on July 2. A co-production between the United States and Mainland China, the science-fiction epic stars Matt Damon, Andy Lau (刘德华), Pedro Pascal, Willem Dafoe, Jing Tian (景甜), Zhang Hanyu (张涵予), Eddie Peng (彭于晏), and Lu Han (鹿晗). It takes place during the Northern Song Dynasty, and is about a group of foreign mercenaries who stumble upon the Great Wall of China, a large wall built to defend against monsters.
The Great Wall is Lu Han’s first period action film. Portraying a young soldier, Lu Han has to wear heavy armor and fight monsters with a long spear. He said, “The props are seriously very delicately made, and its material is very realistic. It’s really well-made.” The 25-year-old also praised the outfits and makeup, “When I looked at myself in the mirror today, I couldn’t recognize myself!”
On his thoughts about filming a large Hollywood production for the first time, Lu Han said, “There’s a lot of people, a lot of cars, and a lot of scenery! Also a lot of canopies and a lot of really good food!”
As one of the youngest actors on the film, Lu Han said he felt frightened to approach his seniors for advice at first. However, his seniors turned out to be a lot more approachable than he originally thought. He said, “I thought they would be rather strict, but they turned out to be really approachable. They would come to me to talk about the film, and they passed on a lot of experiences to me. I am very thankful!”
Matt Damon said he had a shock when he first met Lu Han. He did not realize how huge of a star Lu Han was until he went to his hotel and saw over four hundred flower arrangements dedicated to the young pop idol.
Andy Lau laughed and joked, “Those were actually for me!”

matial arts meets science fiction. this fantasy story seems dumb but im still looking for this one because this is the first real mega hollywood project of andy lau.
@kolo It is helmed byZhang Yimou。 I am certain it will at least be artistically beautiful. But since Zhang Yimou is an excellent storyteller, I am also sure it will probably be his first mega commercial blockbuster. If not Matt Damon wouldn’t have touched it with a ten foot pole.
@funnlim Despite the silly sounding sci-fi/monster-fighter plot, I agree that this will at least be beautifully made.
Wasn’t Flowers of War (my fav) is suppose to be his first blockbuster? Christain Bale did it during his Batman-wave. Unfortunately FoW didn’t go international and had much hype.

Fair + blonde just looks (what we call in local SE Asian jargon) – Ah Beng. ie street loafer tacky.
The only Asians (few) who rock all-blonde hair are very tanned, toned and sporty – even then it’s blonde highlights which look naturally sun bleached.
4 hundred of flower is no big deal for korean stars. Young fans really can spent for their faves!!!
