Mickey Huang’s Light Sentencing Faces Appeal

Television host Mickey Huang (黃子佼), 52, received a sentence of eight months in prison and fined 100,000 Taiwanese dollars for possessing explicit photos of minors. Despite a guilty conviction, many felt Mickey’s sentence was too light.
The prosecution took action and appealed the light sentencing, with the first trial held on March 26. Seen leaving court afterwards, Mickey bowed deeply at reporters prior to leaving. Many wondered why he would react in front of the press this way and deduced he may be planning for a potential comeback in the future.
Although some actors, like Mat Yeung (楊明) and Aaron Yan (炎亞綸), were able to resume their career after their scandals, many believe Mickey’s acts were unforgiveable. Taiwanese politician Miao Po Ya (苗博雅) fired against Mickey’s actions, urging that a perpetrator committing such a heinous crime should not continue in the influential role of a celebrity. During her live stream, Miao Po Ya pointed out Mickey joined an explicit “Creative Private Room” forum in 2014, where the two youngest victims were only 14 years old. In the videos, the victims were posing in their school uniforms and showed their student ID cards, which very clearly stated their ages.
Choking up while speaking on the matter, Miao Po Ya expressed, “Mickey was clearly aware of what he was doing when he chose to download those videos.” Many viewers shared the same sentiment and believed Mickey should be blacklisted from the entertainment industry. One viewer wrote, “For those who have seen this [live broadcast], how can you accept his return to the entertainment industry?” Another wrote, “People like this deserve to go to the eighteen levels of hell. Absolutely abominable.”
