Miriam Yeung is an Overly Intense Mom

Are Miriam Yeung (楊千嬅) and Real Ting (丁子高) acting overboard towards their 1-year-old son, Torres? Frantically looking for top-notch schools and playgroups for Torres, Real has been photographed suffering from hair loss from parental stress.

Earlier, when Torres was under a high fever, the anxious parents suffered from sleepless nights, trying to calm their son’s tears. When Torres lost two to three pounds, Miriam became very anxious and cried. An insider revealed, “The jobs Miriam takes nowadays depends on her son. Torres attends his playgroup twice a week. Since Miriam wants to accompany him, she schedules her work around this.”

When Miriam was working in China, Real had to call her every day to give a report about Torres’ well-being due to her endless worries. Under all this pressure, it is no wonder Real was seen to be losing hair when he stepped out for a jog the other morning.

In response to rumors, Miriam said, “The rumors are too exaggerated! I didn’t cry when Torres fell ill. I didn’t have time to cry; I was in Guangzhou.” She added that Real is not losing hair over being a parent, “It’s probably genetics.”

Education Overload for Torres

Besides attending a playgroup twice a week, Miriam hired a teacher to teach Torres Mandarin. On the side, Torres also attends a baby gym to ensure good health. Miriam also aims to have her son attend an international school because she believes they have a better curriculum to enhance creativity.

The playgroup Torres attends costs approximately $1,200 to $4,800 HKD, or $300 HKD per hour. Since Torres goes twice a week, Miriam pays $2,400 HKD a month on playgroups. Aside from these programs, the actual tuition of the school Miriam chose costs about $10,400 HKD per month.

Intense Parenting

Miriam and Real are not the only parents who act on the extreme side when it comes to their children. It is reported that Daniel Wu (吳彥祖) has started balding and Lisa S. has postpartum depression since their daughter, Raven, was born. Daniel wants to enroll his daughter in kung-fu classes to protect herself against male lechers in the future.

On the other hand, Kenix Kwok (郭可盈) enrolled her daughter in a playgroup that costs over $100,000 HKD per year, while Jacky Cheung (張學友) requires his daughters to only speak English at home.

In order to protect his wife and daughter’s privacy, Andy Lau (劉德華) spends a considerable amount of money on bodyguards. Andy pays over $100,000 HKD to reserve a private hotel elevator to prevent any disturbances.

  1. Every parent is stressed these days, young or old. But pressuring your child to go into an elite educational institute is going too far. Even if your child is enrolled at the finest schools money can buy, it doesn’t guarantee them happiness and/or success.

Parents whether how exposed to public life, should not have to pressure their children to grow up too quickly. Too many showbiz parents enroll their children in International Schools, which isn’t really about education and it often is a detriment to the family and cultural values. There’s not a lot of culture in the students of International schools on my observation.

If you look at Eason Chan and Jan Lamb (married to Cass Pang), they didn’t enroll their children in the International School System; but that’s because different parents have different points of view when it comes to their children’s education.

  2. Glad to see celebrity parbeing being anxious for their kids at an early age. The son of veteran Korean actor, cha seung won was recently charged with rape and this is most likely due to neglect.
But, enrolling the kids into overly expensive schools is a bit too much. Doesn’t matter which school you go, as long as you’re hardworking and have the good attitude, you will succeed too.

  3. Jaynestars,
why don’t you too translate articles on Danny Chan’s memorial concert which was held on 31.8.2013 in which Miriam also apart of it?

  4. I don’t find Miriam overly intense. She and Real just seems like normal parents. Most parents will want to give the best to their children if they can afford it.

Secondly, if my kid got high fever, I will also be anxious and cannot sleep. High fever can be a symptom of other illness and also can cause brain damage if prolonged.
