Miriam Yeung Recalls Difficult Pregnancy
Much like her character in Wonder Woman (多功能老婆), Miriam Yeung (楊千嬅) is also a loving mother in real life. After marrying publicist Real Ting (丁子高) in 2009, the couple welcomed their son Torres Ting in 2012. Becoming a mother at 38 years old, Miriam’s pregnancy was considered high-risk due to her age.
In a recent interview, Miriam shared the difficulties and dangers she went through in order to give birth to Torres. Although the 45-year-old star expressed her desire to have more children, Miriam is afraid to go through another difficult pregnancy.
Reflecting on her pregnancy with Torres, Miriam shared that she was diagnosed with uterine fibroids when she went in for a physical check-up. Because of this, she was not an ideal candidate for pregnancy. Despite being warned of the difficult road ahead, Miriam and Real decided to not terminate the pregnancy. Throughout her pregnancy, the fibroids in her uterus would grow bigger along with the unborn baby as she was further along her pregnancy.
At one point, she had contemplated an abortion, but ultimately decided to continue with the pregnancy and delivered her son via a Caesarean section. Miriam recalled, “When the baby was born, he had a bruise on his nose. The doctor had stated that labor would be extremely dangerous because my uterus was filled with large fibroids that have grown over time. The doctor would have to cut through all the fibroids in order to find the baby’s head. Perhaps the doctor accidentally bruised the baby while surgically removing him.”
Both Miriam and Ting are extremely doting of Torres. They have always wanted to give Torres a sibling. “I want to have another child, but my body is incapable of doing so. Once I think about how a high-risk pregnancy could affect a child, I give up on those thoughts.”
