Myolie Wu is Glad in Having Enough Courage to Leave TVB

Stepping out of her comfort zone, Hong Kong actress Myolie Wu (胡杏兒) earlier decided not to renew her management contract with TVB, the station she worked for since 1999. Preferring to expand her acting career into the film industry to broaden her opportunities, Myolie finally built up enough courage to walk a different route. “I only have one life. Even if I fail, at least I’ve tried.”

Leaving TVB had not been an easy decision and Myolie admitted feeling inevitably emotional. She expressed, “Of course I miss the station a lot, since I’ve worked there for so many years. However, the question of whether or not I am going to renew my management contract had to be answered sooner or later. The answer had to be either a yes or no. I don’t want to drag it on, and I believe Virginia Lok (樂易玲) understands me.”

After signing a three-year contract with Stephen Shiu Jr.’s (蕭定一) China 3D Digital Entertainment Limited, TVB cancelled Myolie’s appearance in promotional functions for her upcoming dramas, Every Step You Take <陪著你走> and Lord of Shanghai <梟雄>. Speaking of being “frozen” by her former station, the actress remarked, “I understand their decision, and it isn’t a big deal. I know TVB’s policies and I don’t mind it, since I was prepared for such circumstances. I’ve already started my new career and will be filming in Beijing this November.”

In terms of switching over to Stephen’s company, Myolie shared, “Mr. Shiu is very honored to have me. We communicate easily and carry the same outlook. He also lets me make my own decisions. I’m an insecure person, and so I would discuss everything with him in detail beforehand and ask if things will work out. He really understands me, and I feel comfortable working with him.”

Currently in a happy romantic relationship with entrepreneur Philip Lee (李乘德), Myolie gushed that her boyfriend feeds her soul. She is unafraid of encountering hardships with his consistent support. Myolie also thanks her group of best friends, including Nancy Wu (胡定欣), Paisley Wu (胡蓓蔚), Selena Li (李施嬅), and Mandy Wong (黃智雯), for bringing out her better self.
