Myolie Wu’s Performance on “Sisters Who Make Waves 3” Wins Applause
A contestant on Chinese talent show, Sisters Who Make Waves 3 <乘風破浪3>, Myolie Wu’s (胡杏兒) performance was highly praised in a recent episode. Dancing and singing to Teresa Teng’s (鄧麗君) “Loving a Song” <愛上一首歌>, Myolie amazed viewers with her talent.
Dressed in a bright yellow ensemble and wearing a chin-length bob wig for her performance, Myolie was the shortest person on her team despite being 5 feet 7 inches. Although dancing was not Myolie’s specialty, her hard work paid off. Na Ying (那英) praised Myolie for being the whole package after watching the performance.
Recalling her struggles during rehearsals, Myolie said, “Dancing is not my strong suite, and this performance was the result of highly rigorous and extremely difficult practices. The beat of the song is really fast, and everyone on my team has great dancing backgrounds.”
Thanking her teammates for their help, Myolie credits them for stimulating her own growth. “During practice, we would often communicate with each other. Everyone really put in a lot of effort – we would do planks while doing vocal exercises. We followed this routine almost every day. I received a lot of help from my teammate, Zhu Jiejing (朱潔靜) and she helped me overcome my shortcomings. It’s really satisfying to overcome obstacles, and to be able to perform in front of everyone.”

I’ve said it before, she’s very marketable in China.
She also did an entire interview in English so she has Cantonese, Mandarin, and English under her belt.
I am not saying she’s easy on the eyes or as “likable” as the actresses with cuter features who are also 5’7″ and 25 instead of 40 yo, but you can’t deny Myolie has a certain sharpness to her.
Myolie tries really hard (and props to her) to be a good actress. Like, really, everyone who knows her says she’s a very ambitious and driven person. I don’t deny she works hard. But is she a good actress? In my mind, no, she isn’t. Is she a pretty face? In my mind, average, but nothing special. Is she an entertainer? In my mind, I haven’t ever laughed at her antics. So she’s not selling her acting, her looks or her personality. Just what is capable of attracting others to her? This is not to throw shade at her, but aside from being to endure, I don’t know why she remains popular. I don’t want her to lose her job, but enough about her. I’d rather read about Ada Choi or Charmaine or any other HK-turned-Mainland actress
