Nancy Wu Signs With Shaw Brothers
A longtime actress at TVB since 2002, Nancy Wu (胡定欣) achieved a breakthrough in 2015 with her stellar performance in Ghost of Relativity <鬼同你OT> and the following year through A Fist Within Four Walls <城寨英雄>, both of which won her TV Queen two years in a row. Despite her recent success at the company, Nancy’s time at TVB came to an end after 18 years, as she jumped ship to Shaw Brothers.
Previously, Nancy’s transition to TVB’s sister company was just a speculation, but she finally cleared the air by announcing her departure on Instagram. She wrote, “I am thankful for all the good people and good things that I have encountered along the way and will accompany me as I welcome a new chapter in my life. Starting today, I will officially begin my collaboration with Shaw Brothers. I want to thank Barbara Siu (蕭笑鳴) and Ben Chan for bringing me into TVB. I also want to thank Virginia Lok (樂易玲) and the late Pui Wah Chan (陳佩華) for their mentorship, support, and opportunities.”
She also expressed gratitude toward the people she encountered throughout her time at TVB. She continued to write, “Thank you to all the artistes and coworkers I have met throughout my 18 years, including Angel, Cindy, Atom, Sam, Winpy, and Daisy. I appreciate having all of your support through my career’s highs and lows. My journey has been so memorable. In the following year, I will be bringing the audience new content in a different format. Please continue to support me!”
Though she just announced her departure, she admitted the change came into effect a while ago, given that she is already filming Big White Duel 2 <白色強人II> under a different agreement with TVB. She said, “This is a new start! I sincerely want to thank TVB for their support and mentorship! I am looking forward to working with Shaw Brothers. I am already filming Big White Duel 2 under a different agreement. In the future, I will be participating in Shaw Brothers productions.”
Many TVB Artistes Are Switching to the Sister Company
Nancy isn’t the first person to switch to TVB’s sister company, given that Shaw Brothers offers a more flexible artiste contract. Many leading TVB artistes have already transitioned, including Bosco Wong (黃宗澤), Joe Ma (馬德鐘), and the award-winning Once More actress Selena Li (李施嬅). Many are anticipating projects featuring both Selena and Nancy since they are good friends from the Nonsense Club.

I wonder why she didn’t join Louis Koo’s company because Shaw Brothers is just an extension of TVB. It seemed to me like Nancy was looking for growth (outside of TVB) hence why she didn’t film any dramas for a year. Shaw Brother dramas are even worse than TVB ones.
Also, I really cannot stand her haircut. She looks super old and kind of like Elena Kong’s sister. Long hair suits her way better.
@hazel
why i wonder why shaws. their dramas are awful but they seem to aim the chinese market so perhaps she sees a bigger potential?
@hazel Louis Koo’s company don’t want her after all. During pandemic everyone was affected,
guess she had no choice but to stay on TVB.
Congrats!
Signing with Shaw brothers is basically signing with tvb. People like Nancy wu don’t have much of a market outside of HK.
Everyone is leaving TVB … ouch
I don’t know why but I just don’t like Nancy in any of her dramas. In fact, in her nonsense club, the only person I enjoy watching is Myolie but I couldn’t even go past the 2nd episode of her new viutv drama. Maybe I’m bored of them already?
