Nicky Wu Opens Up on Marriage with Cecilia Liu
In a new interview with the Yangtse Evening Post, Taiwanese actor Nicky Wu (吳奇隆) talked at length about his wife, Cecilia Liu (劉詩詩), and their plans for their upcoming wedding ceremony.
Since officially tying the knot in January of this year, Nicky and Cecilia appear to have continued on with their busy lives as usual. Nicky shared that although they are now officially husband and wife, he does not expect Cecilia to treat his work as more important than her own.
“We will support each other’s work,” he said. “She is not the type of person with a very high professional ambition, but I support her doing the work she wants to do. She doesn’t need to change how she lives and what she likes just because of her new status.”
Nicky further praised Cecilia for being a “very simple and filial person” without many desires. “She’s not the type of person who wants to buy brand-name clothes and bags,” he said. “She’s very happy even when buying ten-dollar items on Taobao.”
Most Romantic Feeling? Mutual Trust and Forgiveness
When asked what he feels is the most romantic aspect of their relationship, Nicky replied that the biggest – but likely the best – change after their marriage is how he and Cecilia strive to make adjustments to their schedule in order to spend more time with each other.
“Previously, when I had free time, I would chat with my friends,” he explained. “But now, I will visit her on set and do things I didn’t do before. For example, watching a movie is something very simple for most people. It’s harder for us, but it’s quite nice to go to the movies together. We also go on vacation together and do things both of us are interested in.”
Nicky also shared that he and Cecilia try their best to respect each other’s work decisions. In fact, Cecilia will often give Nicky suggestions about his work and recommend good actors to him. “I feel like mutual trust and forgiveness is the most romantic thing,” he stated.
Though Nicky and Cecilia are both busy with work, they are adamant about holding a wedding ceremony, though details like the date, location, and the style are still up in the air.
“Cecilia’s the one in charge; she has the final say,” said Nicky. “I feel that the female’s feelings [about the wedding details] are more important.”
Producing and Starring in New Drama The Legend of Zu
Currently, Nicky is producing a new fantasy/wuxia drama titled The Legend of Zu <蜀山戰紀之劍俠傳奇>, based off the similarly titled 2001 film directed by Tsui Hark (徐克). The series is backed by investments of up to 150 million RMB and will star Nicky Wu, mainland actress Zhao Liying (趙麗穎), and Hong Kong actor William Chan (陳偉霆).
The Legend of Zu is also expected to expand into related projects in screenwriting, film, animations, books, records, and games, thus reaching across all sectors of the entertainment industry. Nicky has high hopes for this “chain of industries,” stating, “Everything I’ve learned and accumulated from filming movies and dramas all of these years has a more complete presence in The Legend of Zu.”
