Nicky Wu Promoted to Uncle Role in “The Legend of Zu 2”
China is introducing a team of new young actors into the mix, and Nicky Wu (吳奇隆) is going to be the uncle that will be leading them.
Directed by Hong Kong director Vicky Wong (黃偉傑), who most recently won Best Director at the Hong Kong Film Awards for his work in Trivisa <樹大招風>, the Chinese xianxia drama The Legend of Zu 2 <蜀山战纪2踏火行歌> is currently doing principal photography in Kunshan, next to Shanghai. The drama, sequel to 2015’s Legend of Zu Mountain <蜀山战纪之剑侠传奇>, sees Nicky Wu returning to the series as Xiao Yue, an unlucky wanderer who is burdened by trouble wherever he goes. Nicky plays a supporting character in the series; the leads are portrayed by Fortuna Yu Ting’er (雨婷儿) and Chen Zheyuan (陈哲远), respectively 17 and 20 years old.
The Legend of Zu 2 follows a brother (Chen Zheyuan) and a sister (Fortuna Yu) who are put in a dangerous journey as they attempt to meet the masters of Zu mountain. There will be elements of the story that will tie back to its 2015 prequel, which had William Chan (陳偉霆) and Zanilia Zhao Liying (赵丽颖) in the lead.
During their press meet, Fortuna referred to Nicky’s character Xiao Yue as “Uncle Xiao”, which led to reporters joking that Nicky has now been promoted to uncle roles. Nicky laughed and said, “I’ve been playing uncle [roles] for many years, but this time I really didn’t want to. To be honest, I do consider this role a breakthrough for me, because it’s a role I haven’t really done before. I don’t think the director likes me. Every time we work together he always gives me something strange. I’m not very normal here. Please forgive me.”
The drama’s four leads—Fortuna Yu, Chen Zheyuan, Liu Yitong (刘一曈), and Nie Zihao (聂子皓)—average 20 years of age. Fortuna, the youngest of the four, turned 17 in January. Despite her young age, the child actress has had quite a lot of experience under her belt, having starred in TV shows such as at the animated series Balala the Fairies <巴啦啦小魔仙> and The Whirlwind Girl <旋风少女>
Zheyuan, on the other hand, first broke out in a talent show, followed by his exceptional performances in the web drama All About Secrets <秘果>. Zheyuan shared that he and Fortuna met during rehearsals, and was told to do a scene together before they could even exchange words. The Legend of Zu 2 is an action-packed story, and Zheyuan went through a month of training before he started filming.

Well…he is the right age for uncle roles to be fair, especially pitted against 17 and 20 year olds.
Its a pity TVB doesnt have any young talent at those ages to promote.
he was certainly a heartrob when young but his age is old enough to be their dad not only uncle. uncle is a compliment
This is not first time he is promoted. I remember he played Zhao Liying’s father in a drama. Even he looks younger his age, but still looks old compared to other young actors
