Owen Cheung Puts Career Ahead of Marriage

When Owen Cheung (張振朗), 36, first entered the entertainment industry, he gained notice for his resemblance to Chilam Cheung (張智霖). Over time, Owen developed a knack for comedic roles, which opened up opportunities for him to gain more leading opportunities and created his own unique image as an actor.

Owen proved her versatility again in supernatural comedy Unchained Medley <靈戲逼人>, where he played two different characters for the first time. Portraying a modern pop musician and a famous Cantonese opera screenwriter, Owen said the script was well written and the filming experience was fun due to the ghost theme. Known for being unlucky, Owen was initially scared of running into haunted things due to the nature of the series. Thus, he took the blessing ceremony and prayers very seriously to ward off any bad luck.

Continuing to improve his acting after taking into account netizens’ feedback, Owen enjoys the process of filming no matter how difficult the role. Owen recalled having zero leading experience when he worked on Come Home Love 2 <愛‧回家2> and the time he had to rigorously train for his role in The Ringmaster <拳王>.

At the TVB Sales Presentation 2024, Owen promoted his two upcoming dramas. Death Hint <奪命提示> is a crime thriller produced by Jazz Boon (文偉鴻) which also stars Joel Chan (陳山聰), Tiffany Lau (劉穎鏇) and Moon Lau (劉佩玥). Owen is currently filming another police drama, Anti-crime Heroes <反黑英雄> with Joel Chan, Benjamin Yuen (袁伟豪), and Elaine Yiu (姚子羚).

Besides finding greater career success, Owen and his girlfriend’s four-year relationship is very stable. Unlike other high-profile couples, Owen and Renci Yeung (楊偲泳) have never shared a couple photo on their social media. Owen felt it is unnecessary to showcase their love online and as long as they are sweet with each other.

In no rush to tie the knot, Owen explained, “We’re both concentrated on our careers right now. She is doing better in the film industry and I’m so happy for her. A senior once said artistes only have a limited number of years to develop their careers to the fullest. In the next few years, I want to focus on my work – everything else can wait.” When asked if Renci would be willing to wait for him, Owen laughed and disclosed their mentalities are very similar. Owen also explained he and Renci would enthusiastically talk about their work during their free time, and would often give each other support and encouragement. “We both agree about this,” he said.
