Pakho Chau Joins Cast of “Below the Lion Rock: Love”
Helmed by golden producer Ella Bo-wah Chan (陳寶華), commemorative drama Below the Lion Rock: Love <獅子山下·情> commenced filming in Foshan, China recently! Joining the cast of previously announced actors is Pakho Chau (周柏豪), who previously revealed that he would be taking on a job in China for three months. The actor has since completed fourteen-day quarantine upon touching down!
A Historic All-Hong Kong Cast
A commemorative special to mark the 25th anniversary of Hong Kong’s handover from Britain to China, the story revolves around generations helming a Cha Chaan Teng business, and is set against the backdrop of Hong Kong’s remarkable transformation from the eighties till today.
Producer Ella Chan revealed that an all-Hong Kong cast will be used for the first time. Besides Pakho, the cast of actors previous announced include Myolie Wu (胡杏兒), Aarif Rahman (李治廷) and Golden Horse best actor Tse Kwan Ho (謝君豪). The first time she is working with Aarif and Huang Jue (黃覺 ), Myolie will be challenged to portray her role from youth to maturity.
Accused of Pro-Independent Sentiments
In 2020, Pakho had provoked the ire of Chinese netizens for his suspected pro-Hong Kong independent stance, and was in danger of being blacklisted. Following his “thankful to be Chinese” speech, he was described by netizens for having “strong survival instincts”, but the move appeared to work as he was later invited by state-owned broadcaster CCTV in May to co-sing the patriotic tune My Motherland and I (我和我的祖國) as part of a flash event <大灣區‧大未來>.
As a work of political significance, Chief Executive of Hong Kong Carrie Lam (林鄭月娥) mentioned during Tencent’s premier of Below the Lion Rock: Love in June that she places great importance on the series and will highly support the filming process.
The drama is slated for release next year on both TVB and Tencent.
