Qi Qi’s Christmas Wish is for Simon Yam to Quit Smoking

Simon Yam (任達華) and Qi Qi (琦琦) have been happily married for 21 years, but although Qi Qi would never Simon for gifts, she suddenly decided that this year would be the year she wants something.

“For my Christmas gift, I want to see Simon Yam quit smoking,” she said with a smile.

For the winter holidays this year, Simon and Qi Qi plan on bringing their teenage daughter Ella to go skiing, as well as a resort getaway to a tropical island. This year will also be Ella’s first year celebrating Christmas in Hong Kong since leaving overseas for school.

“Of course I miss her,” said Qi Qi when asked about how she felt about sending Ella to school overseas. “But I also know that this would be a great opportunity for her to get more experience. Ella is also very studious, with good grades. She’s also learned other languages, such as Latin and Spanish. Since she’s serious about her studies, I do want to cultivate her. She’s always been very independent, with high standards and good self-discipline. She can be a normal child while studying overseas. There’s less stress, and she is happier.”

Both parents have already prepared Christmas gifts for Ella, with Simon Yam gifting her tickets the Travis Scott concert in LA. As for Qi Qi’s own present, she said, “My husband did ask me what I wanted this year, and I told him I want him to quit smoking.”

Qi Qi would ask the same question everyday, “How many have you smoked today?” Determined to convince Simon to quit smoking, Qi Qi plans on getting Ella’s help, too: “I’m going to tell her that she can only talk to her father if he didn’t smoke that day.”

Has Simon asked for Qi Qi to quit her own bad habits? She said, “Nope! Maybe it’s because my husband doesn’t have any demands, or maybe he’s too scared!”
