“Queen of News” Garners Recognition

Garnering recognition for their roles in The Queen of News <新聞女王>, actresses Charmaine Sheh (佘詩曼) and Samantho Ko (高海寧) add another award for their performances.

“Sister Man” Edges Out Zhao Lusi and Asia-wide Nominees

Held in Taipei on September 5, the recent 2024 ContentAsia Awards saw participants from 13 other countries across Asia including China, India, Malaysia, Thailand, South Korea, Indonesia and Singapore. Charmaine’s raved-about newscaster role as “Sister Man” beat Chinese post-95 flower actress Zhao Lusi (趙露思), who won Silver for her role as Sun Toutou in Gen Z <後浪>.

Samantha, who won Gold in the Best Supporting Actress category for her role as anchorwoman Hui Sze-ching (Cathy) in the same drama, accepted the award on behalf of Charmaine. Ecstatic in the spotlight, Samantha, who was dressed in a midriff-baring body-hugging red dress, said she was even happier when receiving Charmaine’s award on the latter’s behalf than for herself, as she got a taste of Charmaine’s vicarious joy when she won an award back then. Hoping to deliver even better performances for viewers in Queen of News 2 <新聞女王2>, the 37-year-old says she would definitely work towards the Best Actress milestone next.

Expressing gratefulness in a thank you note on social media, Charmaine wrote, “I’m delighted and honored to receive the Best Female Lead award at the 2024 Asia Content Awards, thanks to ContentAsia…A big congratulations to my sweetheart Samantha Ko for winning Best Supporting Female Lead! Let us look forward to the sequel,” Busy with commercial gigs and variety shows, Charmaine said she is looking forward to script like everyone else, and that filming is slated to start early next year.

Kelly Romances 3 Leads in Upcoming Telemovie

Actress Kelly Cheung (張曦雯) who also secured a Bronze in the Best Supporting Female Lead for her role Ting Yeuk-ning in Narcotics Heroes <破毒強人>, shared that it was a “great encouragement” as it was an Asia-wide contest against amazing competitors, and hopes that she would have another chance to win and receive the award in person. Busy filming TVB telemovie <尋夢琴澳> in Macau, Kelly revealed that she plays an architect who craves for love.

“I’d be romantically involved with all three male leads Kenneth Ma (馬國明), Ruco Chan (陳展鵬) and Shaun Tam (譚俊彥), if you want to know how I can romance all 3 lead actors within the 90 minutes, then you’ll have to stay tuned!” Also filming upcoming drama Undercover Girls <特勤女團> which also stars Jeannie Chan (陳瀅) and Yuki Law (羅毓儀), the actress has her schedule lined up with fulfilling singing and dancing practices!

  1. I am not sure how to feel about Kelly Cheung’s win for silver in best supporting. It’s not her acting per se but her role was superfluous in the drama, it was not even a turning point for her on screen partner Edwin. I am just not sure of the character’s purpose and for that reason, KC might not have been able to give her widest range of a performance.
