Raymond Cho, Jazz Lam Expand Dining Businesses
To supplement their incomes, many TVB artistes have ventured into starting their own businesses. Earlier, Raymond Cho (曹永廉) and Jazz Lam (林子善) were spotted looking at rental spaces in a mall at North Point. Evergreen Mak (麥長青), who is currently the Planning and Promotions Director for the shopping center, was present to give advice on picking a prime spot for their new venture.
Raymond and Jazz already own individual restaurants. Raymond and his friend previously pooled together a seven-figure sum to open a Hong Kong style cafe. Jazz is the current owner of two cafes. Although they are usually busy filming at TVB, Raymond and Jazz frequently visit their restaurants to help out the staff.
Initially, it was speculated that Raymond wanted to partner with Edwin Siu (蕭正楠) in opening a second location for his café. However, these rumors dissipated when he was seen checking rental spaces with Jazz and observing the market potential.
As the actors weighed their options carefully, Evergreen and a real estate agent discussed the floor plans and details of renting out the location.
Raymond Cho Admits Intent to Expand Business
Raymond admitted that he is considering expanding his restaurant business. “I purposely invited Jazz along to take a look but we’ll have to see! My wife is currently involved in her baby products and clothing business. She may collaborate with Timmy Hung (洪天明) and his wife, Janet Chow. Earlier, a store space with a balcony caught my eye and I thought it would be an ideal place for an upscale cafe. I’ll have to do further research.”
Since Jazz already owns two restaurants, he said that the current retail space he is looking at may not be used for his cafe business. But he may look into fashion or miscellaneous snacks.

Evergreen Mak – is he still acting, and with TVB?
Evergreen???
Looks like he branched out to managing Malls..
Wow, these guys are doing well. Yes, has Evergreen left TVB? It sounds like it.
“Evergreen Mak (麥長青), who is currently the Planning and Promotions Director for the shopping center,”
What?!
Yes, that’s his side job. He has been doing this for years already. Heard him said so in a radio interview many years ago. He has an event planner side business.
Wow didn’t know! How he can find the time to film? Company very nice to give him long leave! I suppose he can later open his own event management sort of company?
Kidd,
Evergreen Mak’s side jobs are new to me. I was surprised to learn that he promotes for the mall. The artistes with deeper pockets have ventured mainly into opening cafes and using their popularity to promote their businesses. Working for TVB makes artistes famous, but not necessarily well off.
Funn,
I don’t know if Evergreen Mak was hired full time by the mall or the mall outsource its promotion dept.
In the interview, he only said he has side business of planning promotion events for malls.
Jayne,
I wonder if all TVB’s 2nd and 3rd line actors have side jobs and secondary income. If not, how can they support their family?
Kidd,
“I wonder if all TVB’s 2nd and 3rd line actors have side jobs and secondary income. If not, how can they support their family?”
I think a lot of the artistes have side jobs. The ones with better connections and savings have been able to open up their own business, while others such as Eric Li are part-time employees at other establishments instead. Not sure how many hours of filming the supporting actors have, but if it’s less than 40 hours per week, they can take on an additional part-time job.
I also never knew that but I think none of us should be shocked because we all know that TvB does not pay much. Therefore, most of the artists need side jobs and other ventures in order to make more income, especially in Evergreen’ s case as he is the main breadwinner.
This Jazz is a bit uglier but he looks like that EASON CHAN no? haha…god, that mop of hair…haha LOL
Guys like Jazz and Oscar Leung have come a long way since joining TVB. However, they’re improving tremendously and I enjoy their works (especially Jazzz in Ghetto Justice). With more exposure and rising popularity, both of them have undergone makeovers which is fantastic …..but I cannot agree with Jazz’s choice of hairstyle for the above photo (….yeah like Eason, awful).
And I suppose you look better then.
There is way more to anyone rather than just looks.
