Raymond Lam: “I Am Dating Karena Ng!”
Raymond Lam (林峯) announced today that he is dating 19-year-old Karena Ng (吳千語), hoping to put a stop to the last 3 weeks of negative press regarding his “BB”.
The Hong Kong paparazzi has been on the hot trail of Raymond and Karena’s romance since the Love is…Pyjamas <男人如衣服> costars were spotted on a date together in July 2012. Last month, Karena’s high-profile attendance of Raymond’s “A Time 4 You” concert sparked rumors that she is ready to flaunt her status as Raymond’s girlfriend. Tabloids speculated that Raymond was even partially living together with Karena, and paying for her entire family’s living expenses at luxury apartments. Raymond’s father, wealthy real estate developer, Lam Kwok Wah (林國華), allegedly disapproved of Karena due to her family background and colorful romantic past.
Dating Karena for a Period of Time
Afraid that the rumors will only become increasingly slanderous towards Karena and her family, Raymond finally stepped forward on February 6 to announce that he is indeed dating Karena. Appearing at the TVB Golden Viva Spectacular event, Raymond said, “All along, I did not explain things non-related to my job. However, recent news reports have affected the people that I love, including her and her family.”
When asked if Raymond was referring to Karena, Raymond admitted, “Yes.” Was Karena his “BB”? Raymond said, “Yes.”
Was Raymond admitting he and Karena’s relationship status? Raymond said, “Yes.” Although the couple has been together for a period of time and Karena even met his family, Raymond did not publicly reveal the relationship since it was his personal matter. As the rumors became increasingly slanderous, Raymond hoped to be a protective boyfriend. “I am only doing what a man should do.
“Anyway, it is wrong to implicate her family. The most humorous report claimed that I pay for her apartment’s rent, twisting everyone’s perception. I’m a bit unhappy and upset.” Contrary to reports, Raymond explained that he has not met Karena’s parents yet, but the Ng family background is quite good and that Karena is a great girl. Raymond hopes that the paparazzi will not twist the truth and affect her family.
Raymond added that he is not living together with Karena and that no financial exchanges have occurred between them.
Unafraid of Fan Backlash
As a popular idol, Raymond has frequently been pressured to keep his romantic life shielded from the public eye. It was Raymond’s sole decision to announce his relationship status with Karena, as she did not complain nor pressure him to do so. Asked if TVB executive, Virginia Lok (樂易玲) will offer her blessings, Raymond dodged the question and said that the matter involved his personal affairs and did not affect the people around him.
Believing that the most important thing is to treat a relationship with a sincere attitude, Raymond was unafraid of fan backlash and hoped to receive the public’s blessings.
Karena’s Response
Currently filming a drama in Wuxi, Karena’s manager indicated that Karena agreed with Raymond’s statement before the press. When she returns to Hong Kong, she will personally address the media’s questions.

Wow! 15 yrs! At first I already thought Ron and Vianna’s +5 yr age gap was kinda big, then Reports of Ray dating a 19 year old. That’s +10 yr age gap! Crazy!! I think some one commented before that a guy 10 yr older than girl is good for relationship since guys are always less mature. But still, I can’t accept that big of an age gap looks awkward and makes the guy look like he’s a playboy.

I think if the guy is older than it is usually more acceptable since women mature and age faster than men do. Steve Ma and his second wife Wu Jia Ni are 21 years apart and they seem ok.I think the issue about age here is that Karena is barely an adult at 19-20 years old. IF she were at least in her mid 20s then I think people would be more accepting.
While it is true that in today’s society it is uncommon to have such relationships with a huge age gap, I have to say that I am young myself and would not mind dating someone that much older. Girls do mature sooner than boys of their age and so I find older men to be attractive. When it comes to love, age should not matter so much. Plus, the relationship is theirs and is between them two only. Raymond did the right thing and fulfilled his responsibility as her significant other.
I’m not surprised Raymond is dating Karena, just shocked at his sudden decision to announce that she is girlfriend, after denying the relationship earlier this week.
It may indeed be Raymond’s impulsive decision and a desire to make a good impression towards her family.

I’m equally as surprised at his decision to reveal their relationship. I believe he learned his lesson from last time and wanted to prevent it from happening again. Plus I do believe that he wants to step up and prevent the media from further writing any negative news on Karena and the only way is to announce that they are indeed dating. I’m happy that he is showing his commitment to her and hope that she is just as committed to him.

I am also not shocked that he is because there is no smoke without fire. Whenever a “rumour” comes up over and over again, there is usually some truth to it unless it so ridiculous that it just can’t be true. I am glad that he admitted it so that the media can let him have some peace…Ok, so all of the stuff about his dad not liking her may be true to some extent. No wonder he does not have anything with Michelle… Now I wonder about the lightning wedding too. But that may or may not be true since whether you are with someone is separated by a very thin thread line. I am also shocked by his sudden decision to announce it too.
I don’t think its sudden. I think he gone crazy after seeing those news report. I mean, people don’t realize it, celebrities are people too. They get emotionally scarred when they see news like that (sometimes news like that isn’t even that bad, it’s the response and words that people can’t seem to control not to type out.) And I’m going to assume he is foreal with Karena or perhaps he learn his lesson from the Mavis Pan incident where he felt he wasn’t being the 100% boyfriend he was suppose to be and grew up from that. If that is the case, I applaud him for moving on and not letting the past haunt him.

As a parent of a daughter myself, I agree that I wouldn’t like the idea of her dating someone that much older at the tender age of 19 but in this day and age, what can a parent do? Lock her up and suppress her from seeing him? The only thing to do is provide support and attempt to understand her feelings for him to determine what attracted her to a much older man. Well in Karena’s case, LF is the whole package, he has the looks, the fame and an abundance of money so how can one not be attracted to him???

Gigi Lai did not marry her husband at 19 at all. She married him in 2008 when she was 37!! Her husband is about 14 or 15 years older than her which isn’t too bad since she was no longer a spring chicken either. Honestly, who is truly set for life because you can be really rich and famous one moment but poor and unknown the next… You never know because life is unpredictable.

Actually I’ve seen a lot of parents support 19 years old children to get married because they are thinking that a marriage can help the children to have a stable life. And many that got married in young age have happy life around me. So wat is the problem? Marry in old age still can be happy and unhappy, marry in young age still can be happy and unhappy, it isn’t illogic when laws of most countries set the marriage age of 18 for girls and 21 for guys, as the researches show it’s suitable age for a girl/guy to have the ability to start a family. If you are thinking 19 is too young to get married, then you have to ask the intelligence of thousand years and ppl for why setting this marriage age in laws :).
I am in a very stable relationship for more than 5 years and my parents still disapprove of it. So i guess it depends on the parents’ mentality. some are more liberal and some are more conservative. In Karena’s case her parents are likely more liberal.

I’m not in the position to say “Yes she is” or “No she isn’t”. It’s all up to Karena herself. And I’m afraid that nobody here can know about her maturity as well.
However, the laws don’t cover all the cases, they only cover the common senses. And common senses to say that 18 is enough to a normal girl to bear the responsibilities of a marriage, so laws set it. It based on the majority of the social. If anyone have the doubt that a 18 years old girl can’t bear these things, they can do against the laws with the hope to change it, however the laws are still accepted by the majority, so it rules.

BB is not bad in usual context except she is a girl on the cusp of adulthood and he is a guy going towards mid adulthood and so the whole BB thing is creepy. 14 is not wide if she is 30 and he is 44 but 19 with the age Ray is now, it is wide enough. But maybe some guys like young girls so to speak, like a daddy complex and some girls.. ok I am sure any age likes Ray so that doesn’t count. She is probably in this relationship as a star struck fan. Will it end in marriage? Let’s give them a year and we shall see. My feeling is even if marriage, another year divorced. Pressure is too much and yes, she is too young.

I dated a guy 12 years my senior when I was 19. I am now 28 and we’re married. I do not see any problem with it. They both look physically match to me and doesn’t appear to be uncle/niece aura. It is also about the maturity level of the female. Since she is in the entertainment circle, it is likely that her maturity levels are higher compare to regular girl. I think as long as they are both happy, age shouldn’t be a factor. As long as he is not old enough to be her dad!

I would say I doubt it’ll last, but then Jay Chou is still with his teenager so why shouldn’t this last at least as long. I’m sure girls in the entertainment industry are more mature than normal girls, but I still think a 10+ years difference is too much when you are only 19 years old. Why didn’t anyone consider the fact that maybe Karena herself leaked those news to the paparazzis so Raymond cannot deny their relationship anymore? Bosco and Myolie has always denied their relationship right up till they admit and then broke up a year later we know that it was a 8 year relationship already. So how many times they lied in the 8 years? Anybody compiled? I agree Ray should lie because once you know the truth, the media will try to break you up. Everyone should have some privacy.

This news is so much more tame than the one in china with the 24-year old singer dating a 12-year-old model. Now that was disgusting since the singer gave her singing lessons since age eight. Ew.

I thought Karena was born in the year 1993 no? That makes her 20 this year just like me anyhow I would definitely not date someone who is 14 years my senior even if that person is Raymond Lam! Yeah he can be all good looking and hot now but how would he look like in another 20 years? IF they’re still together that time then Karena would look like she is going out with an old uncle of hers.
That isn’t all true because depending on stress levels and such, women can look 10+ years older than they really are. It all comes down to how Karena’s life style is. Where as men, they keep their physique unless they go on a eating marathon and become balloon-ish and saggy. I doubt Raymond will be like that.
If you are talking about true love, it does not matter how one looks down the road, so long as they stay healthy. If looks does matter in true love than many couples won’t want to see their other half past 60. It’s a fact – you can’t go against nature.
I don’t like it when people say “Age is just a number” because it is NOT. Your mental age may be different, like LF can be mentally younger, but he is NOT younger. To those who say “Age is just a number”: if you were 19 would you date a 77 year old man?
I know you’re making a point but 19 and 77 is clearly not the case with 19 and 33. Also, I highly doubt anyone would even say “age is just a number”. I think the normal reaction is having the disgusted look. Where as Karena and LF’s age, yes their age is quite odd and weird NOW due to the fact Karena is only 19/20, but they’re gap is not even 15 years so when both age, it’s pretty much not that awkward. In five years, 24 and 38, in another five, 29 and 43, another five, 34 and 48 and so on and so forth. If its like a 20+ age gap, ugh 20 and 40, 40 and 60, 60 and deceased if the man has a short life?
If Raymond says he’s dating Kerena then he is and I do wish them all the best. To me age is no barrier but he has to make sure that she is just not infatuated with him but that it is truly love.
