Rebecca Zhu Opts For Career Over Love

Entering the entertainment industry as the winner of the 2011 Miss Hong Kong Pageant, Rebecca Zhu’s (朱晨麗) primary goal at the moment is to build her career. Other aspects such as love come later down the list. Despite hoping to focus on work, the 27-year-old artist laughed and exclaimed she would still welcome any pursuers, though she doubts she has the time to date.

Speaking of romantic relationships, Rebecca shared she had dated her first boyfriend at the age of 16. The two were high school classmates and both attended the same boarding school. Although the boys and girls’ dormitories were in separate buildings, they met up on the sports field each evening for a walk. Rebecca revealed that their romance was pure and simple at the time, and they never kissed or even held hands.

The sweet relationship with her first love lasted for three years, until they were forced to break up when the boy moved overseas. However, the two still keep in close contact to this day and Rebecca would often share both happy and upsetting moments with him. When asked if they would ever get back together, she exclaimed, “That won’t happen! First loves are meant to be the sweetest, and I want to preserve the best memories.”

As a ballet dancer before becoming an actress, Rebecca also dated one of her former dance partners. He is a foreigner and leads a completely different lifestyle, in which Rebecca quickly adapted to. Although there is a stereotype that foreigners are more romantic, Rebecca disagreed and expressed, “That’s not true. I felt like I sought romance a bit more. On our special days, I was the one who took time to prepare gifts and meals to make him happy. Of course, he was sweet sometimes too, but fate can be quite strange. We broke up in the end as well.”

Reluctant to Discuss Don Li

Earlier, tabloids reported that EEG artist Don Li (李逸朗) had been heavily pursuing Rebecca. The two were also photographed engaging in intimate behaviour. However, Rebecca coldly remarked that their personalities are incompatible and there had been no chance to develop a relationship. When prompted for details, she expressed, “I don’t want to say much about him. It’s not like we’ve ever dated. All in all, we’re basically not even in contact with each other.”

While the rumors with Don were circulating, tabloids also pointed out that Rebecca became rich overnight. She reportedly flew to Europe in first class, returned with four luggage cases, and was seen with a personal chauffeur. Furthermore, Rebecca also allegedly purchased a $10 million HKD mansion.

Rebecca denied the tabloids’ claims and explained she had saved money for a long time in order to fly first class, which had always been her dream. She added that she bought the luggage cases for her friends, since they are cheaper in Europe. In terms of the “luxurious mansion”, Rebecca explained she indeed purchased a flat for investment purposes, but it is nowhere near as expensive as tabloids had suggested.
