Ren Jialun and Janine Chang’s Worlds Collide in “Never Say Goodbye”

Starring Allen Ren Jialun (任嘉伦) and Janine Chang (张钧甯), the long-awaited triad romance Never Say Goodbye <不说再见> finally secured a release date on June 22 through Tencent and iQiyi. Awaiting broadcast for more than three years, Never Say Goodbye looks promising with its intensity filled and action-packed storyline performed by the acclaimed cast.

Never Say Goodbye begins with scenes that occurred three years ago where a police officer Liu Yuanwen (Ren Jialun) sends a wrong intelligence report that apparently leads to the death of his fiancée and colleague Rong Yu. Falling out with her brother Rong Yao (Liu Enyou 刘恩佑) who is a member of the drug enforcement task force, Yuanwen is devastated and grief-stricken and resigns from his position.

Since then, no one has known of his whereabouts until years later when Rong Yao who got promoted as the task force leader is ordered to provide support to an undercover agent Mu Qing in a drug cartel, Group K led by Mr. Ou (Hsi Shunkou 寇世勋). Discovering Mu Qing is Yuanwen, he is conflicted but is forced to work with him to complete the mission.

On the other hand, Yuanwen makes a deal with Mr. Ou’s daughter Ou Kexin (Janine Chang) to climb up the ranks, but later finds themselves growing too attached for their own good.

Never Say Goodbye is a meaningful and carefully designed production by the experienced Beijing Television Art Center in collaboration with other companies. As the first domestic television professional production team, it has established a strong footing in the television industry with its numerous “first” accolades and explosive ratings records.

The drama is directed by Zheng Xiaolong (郑晓龙), who impressed many with Empresses in the Palace <甄嬛传> and A Native of Beijing in New York <北京人在纽约>. In addition, screenwriter Li Xiaoming (李晓明), who worked on Ke Wang <渴望> and A Year After A Year <一年又一年>, served as literary consultant. Both are talented ex-employees of Art Center and created many classics together.

Additionally, the majority of the supporting casts are acknowledged veterans including Zhang Xilin (张晞临), Zhang Guangbei (张光北), and Xu Wenguang (许文广). Their powerful performances will surely anchor the more serious aspects of crime themes depicted in the drama.

  1. I have been waiting for this drama for years…The veteran actors in the dramas are solid actors. I hope this drama will not disappoint… but I better set my expectation low. Too many CDramas have been very disappointing with pointless extended content.

  2. I don’t like the ML and I don’t find him attractive BUT I was able to miraculously finished 2 episodes and will probably continue w the 3rd later on. lol….That’s something at least ahhaa… I mostly stop after 1 or 2 episodes of every series after The Long Ballad. It’s looks like a typical UC/Gang drama but so far it’s not that bad. But yeah 50 epi is crazy long but then again that’s normal for cdramas. It’s way better than those sweet sweet modern dramas.

    1. @wm2017 I dont watch the crazy sweet dramas… With the low salary caps, China is producing so many movies/dramas with bad writing./casting etc…Important to sieve thru many just to pick the few worth watching.
