Roger Kwok and Hera Chan to Star in “Golden Forest”
TVB announced the upcoming filming of new drama Golden Forest <金式森林>, a collaboration with Chinese platforms. The 25-episode drama will feature on-location filming in China. The drama will revolve around the internal power struggles of a wealthy family, with Roger Kwok (郭晉安) as the CEO of a listed company. Surprisingly, the female lead will be played by Hera Chan (陳曉華) as Roger’s second wife.
The supporting cast feature many of TVB’s younger talent. Roger’s three sons will be played by Matthew Ho (何廣沛), Andrew Chan (陳浚霆), and Joey Law (羅天宇). Matthew’s wife will be played by Regina Ho (何依婷) and Andrew’s partner will be played by Yvette Chan (陳星妤). Joey will have a relationship with Him Law’s (羅子溢) younger sister Rosita Kwok (郭柏妍). Miss Hong Kong winner Hilary Chong (莊子璇) will make her acting debut as Roger’s obedient daughter. Other cast members include Mimi Kung (龔慈恩) and Kaman Kong (江嘉敏).
While promoting Golden Forest, Roger also fielded questions about his divorce with Cindy Au (歐倩怡). Last year, Roger accompanied his 16-year old son Brad Kwok (郭令山) to audition for a music school in England. Since Brad was successfully accepted, Roger will accompany his son to England and help him get settled in August before the start of the school year. “I’ll be spending two weeks with him. I hope to have completed my scenes by then! If not, I’ll finish them when I return from England.”
Commenting on working with Hera, Roger shared the pairing is quite refreshing, “I worked with her on another drama before, but we didn’t have any scenes together. I hope we’re able to get into character quickly!”
Hera shared it has been half a year since her last drama No Return <巾幗梟雄之懸崖>. “I’m working hard so I can quickly get into working mode. This is a very valuable opportunity and challenge, but I don’t want to give myself too much pressure. I hope to be able to immerse myself in the character.” Although she has not dated a man with a such a large age gap in real life before, Hera believes there are many different types of love. “I’ll try to understand how my character loves. The costume design isn’t set yet so I’m not sure whether [the outfits] will be more mature.”
Hera recalled the first time she met Roger, when he asked how he should address her. When she stuttered out of nervousness, Roger said Hera could call him Daddy. “He was very warm! I grew up watching his dramas and it never crossed my mind that I would one day work with him. I’m very excited but also feel a bit of pressure. Everyone has been telling me to relax as it’s my first [lead role], but I don’t want to drag everyone down so I’ve done a lot of preparation. The producer also gave me advice. For example, speaking with a small dried preserved plum in my mouth or to biting on a piece of cork while reading the newspaper out loud would help me enunciate clearly. I am writing a journal as my character so I can think about how to express her emotions. I am practicing my expressions in front of a mirror to see if they look natural and appropriate.”
Rosita has worked with both Him and Joey before, but it will be her first time working with all the other actresses. “The script hasn’t been fully released yet but I’m excited to see how the story will unfold. The pairings are refreshing and I look forward to working with everyone.”
Joey had worked with Matthew before and they were coincidentally also brothers in that drama, except Joey was the younger brother at the time. “I’m actually older than him in real life. My character this time is quite like the real me, he is more chill and doesn’t really care for family politics.”
Andrew is a fixed member of Come Home Love: Lo and Behold <愛.回家之開心速遞> and has been receiving positive attention for his character. This is his first venture outside of the sitcom and he is full of anticipation, “The Come Home Love cast and crew are happy and support me in this new role. When I told Kelly Gu (古佩玲), she said that I could go to her anytime to discuss. I don’t want to embarrass the Come Home Love team; I hope to learn and perform well in this drama. I’ll have more screen time in this drama and it’ll be my first time working with Yvette. I hope that we’ll have chemistry!” He also shared that he is very excited to work with Roger, “When I was studying in the United States, I bought his drama DVDs in Chinatown to watch. I hope I’ll be able to learn from him.”

Haha… I have not finish reading…
Joey will have a relationship with Him Law’s (羅子溢)
I get that they don’t have a strong pool of male leads anymore and they keep tapping in these older generation actors, but I really am not a fan of this 30 year age gap pairing…
With you on this.
Same. TVB’s been consistently pushing these large age pairings — Joe Ma and Jeannie Chan, Roger and Kelly Cheung, Ram Chiang and Ashley Chu. They can call the ladies second wives, third wives, whatever. It’s still a huge age gap.
