Ron Ng and Rucco Chan Film Explosion Scene in “ATF Counter-Terrorism Unit”
Ron Ng (吳卓羲) and Rucco Chan (陳展鵬)filmed a scene for new series, ATF Counter-Terrorism Unit <ATF反恐>in Sha Tin yesterday. As a member of the Counter-Terrorism Unit, Ron suspected that his elder brother, Rucco, possessed explosives on his body. As a result, Ron and other members of the Counter-Terrorism Unit attempted to arrest him.
Since the filming location was adjacent to walking and cycling paths, numerous pedestrians gathered to watch. Ron climbed from underneath a bridge to the top of the structure to chase Rucco. Without a means of escape before him, Rucco tossed a bag containing explosives into the river, which exploded in mid-air. The explosive noise was extremely loud and shocking. Ron and Rucco noted that the action choreography for ATF Counter-Terrorism Unit was the same person who worked on the Burning Flame <烈火雄心> series. The pair expected challenging action sequences ahead.
Ron Ng Will Sleep Well Tonight
Ron stated, “In the scene where I climbed from under the bridge to the top of the structure, wirework provided approximately thirty-percent assistance in completing the stunt. My personal strength helped complete the scene. Although I normally work out at the gym and my body can handle the physical requirements, I sustained some minor scrapes. Since I filmed numerous strenuous scenes today, I should be able to sleep well tonight!”
Originally, Rucco had to film a scene where he jumped into the river. “Due to today’s low tide, the water was only four feet deep which would make the stunt very dangerous to perform. We will film the scene on another day. Personally, I don’t mind. In the past, I filmed a scene in which I jumped into the water from a pier without a need for a stunt double.”

Jayne: Due to Ron’s fit figure and strength, perhaps that is why producers often typecast him as a police officer. Not many actors may be able to handle the stunt requirements on a regular basis.
Rucco sounds as if he meets the challenge in difficult action scenes and willing to work very hard. Coupled with his handsome exterior, he is cast frequently by producers.
Question, in the last group photo of the ATF men, who is the guy standing all the way on the right corner? He is quite good looking!
Is counter terrorism a relevant subject in HK?
Yea I was just going to ask the same thing.
As far as i know hk police does not hav a dedicated team for counter-terrorism work. Closest they have is the Special Duties Unit (SDU) which is a subdivision of the PTU.
I suppose you can have ‘terrorism’ without the religious or cultural trappings we have become use to since 2001. Any sort of threat of force causing social disruption on a large scale is an act of terrorism in a domestic sense. It would also depend on what hk law defines as ‘terrorism’ lol so counter-terrorism may be relevant in hk if say armed robbery in broad daylight in a popular zone was defined terrorism 🙂
There is actually a CTRU department in Hong Kong. It’s a new division.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N8DYWDYbFwA
There was CTU in Angels Of Mission but that was really fictional
Wow Ron and Ruco together in a series? Can’t wait! Looks like Ruco is getting a big push and Ron making a big comeback this year!
Ruco’s second push after TT and Ron’s comeback 😀
i think the guy on the right corner might be this guy http://artiste.tvb.com/blog/quinnho/
A Mr HK winner?
Ilovehk08,
Thanks for the link to Quinn Ho’s link! I think it is him. He has a nice smile, but looks like early 20s, so young!
Hot, Ron looks really manly in the above picture. Paired with Rucco, that should be a really good series, unfortunately the lady cast in there are not that appealing.
Wow, ron has aged. Or maybe when I first saw him he was young.
Ron looks good but I’m getting tired of him act as a police officer.
looks like TVB are promoting him heavily. Too bad his acting skill is just at a beginners level.
man ron looks so good! he has really good arms :)))
Ron is so freaking hot!!!!!!! Hopefully will promote Rucco. He’s such a good actor and good looking too compare to Michael Tse.
hahaha, acting wise Michael is Rons “grandfather” but yeah he is better looking with little acting skills.
Agreed! Ron is freaking HOT!! I love how he looks
totally agreee!! ron is amazing and so HOT!!!
I think Rucco is so hot. Hope he gains more popularity with TVB.
Yeah! Ron and Ruco…..they are hot, hot, hot!
Ron looks really mature and manly in that picture. I am tired of seeing him as a police officer though… I hope to see him other types of roles.
HeTieShou,
Apparently Ron has found a niche in playing cops. He looks like a cop and apparently has stamina to film grueling stunts. I suspect there will be a lot more cop roles (ICAC, PTU, G-Force, O Kei, etc.) Ahead for him as long as TVB will be filming series about specialty units within the police force.
Yay we get to see him in different cop uniforms! Maybe Ron may even attract the attention of Johnny To or Dante Lam in the future, diectors who love cops versus triads scripts.
Problem is ICAC doesn’t actual do any frontline operations. Lol its mostly a illusion when they are portrayed as chasing crooks and wielding guns.
Jayne,
Thanks but I still wish to see him other series, like ancient series since I don’t like modern series that much. I haven’t seen him in an ancient one for awhile now and miss seeing him as a “da xia”.
HeTieShou,
TVB is making few ancient series as compared to modern dramas. So you wouldn’t watch a series if it were a modern genre, even if it featured an artist such as Ron that you would like to see?
On the other hand, I favor modern dramas. TVB’s golden era of Jin Yong adaptations are over and aside from some historical adaptations, the majority of ancient comedies do not interest me. If the cast are going to talk modern, act modern, and have modern gag jokes, what is the purpose of setting it in the ancient period?
SDS,
You’re correct that ICAC normally does not thrust their guns. Hehe TVB’s depiction of SDU (Flying Tigers Unit) is very over-the-top as well.
I’ll like to watch a good espionage thriller, with secret agents and international settings similiar to “The Bourne Identity” minus the amnesia.
Ron can play secret agent next and sleep with the enemy to uncover top security data to help save Hong Kong. 🙂
Jayne,
I think that is one of the reasons why I did not watch TVB much for a long time. I watch all kinds of series from Mainland China, Korean, Taiwanese, etc… Back in the golden TVB days I would watch mostly(if not entirely) ancient dramas since I never liked modern dramas at all. Back then, IF I did see a modern drama it would be because it was a classic like the Bund or something like that. My family and I would watch mostly ancient dramas since that was all we liked.
I actually only started to watch or even like modern dramas recently. It all started with Taiwanese series Wang Zi Bian Qing Wah/Frog Prince. That was the first modern drama that I ever liked in my life which made me watch modern dramas, so now I would watch modern dramas. However, I still don’t like them as much as ancient series. TVB is not making many ancient series and their quality is depleting so I don’t watch them as much as before.
It does sound strange acting all modern in ancient series which is why I don’t like TVB drama as much anymore. But I would still watch them if I hear good reviews about them since some are still good. No, I never go for the cast only when I watch any series because there is way more to a series rather than just the cast. I think that plot is the most important thing in any series.
Yeah Ron can sleep with a widow granny cougar of a triad group in order to save HK LOL. Otherwise he will be another cheap man hehe
@ Jayne
Do you think TVB is capable of making good espionage thriller? 😛
@ HTS
“Thanks but I still wish to see him other series, like ancient series since I don’t like modern series that much. “
Blame TVB for not letting Wong Wai Sing have Ron. If WWS can have Ron, you would have been able to see Ron in TVB’s latest ancient series ‘Relics of the Emissary’. 😀
Producer Wong has wanted Ron to be in Relics because he wanted to use back the cast of the TA trilogy. Honestly, I’m still disappointed Ron cannot participate in Relic. To me Ron and Sammul are the backbone of the TA trilogy. Missing one of them in the ancient version makes it incomplete for me.
Kidd,
I think TVB can pull it off an espionage thriller if they set their minds on it. Just don’t add fluffy romance and make it a comedy. Some of their series try to cross too many lines and that is where they fail.
Espionage thriller is not too far from cop drama. Just make it darker, more mysterious and cut the lame wisecracks.
Ron would make a fine secret agent. Fala would make a fine mysterious counter agent. Add in cool gadgetry and international spy mission traveling through Europe and it would be thrilling. As for sleeping with the enemy, heheh maybe older woman such as an evil Sheren Tang or Rebecca Chan? 😉
Unfortunately Espionage thriller is a smarter version of a cop drama, since it involves international stuff and of course terrorists. Let me bet; there will be drama and some comedy and buddy-buddy story and the Espionage thriller in the end will look like some crime drama. I wonder though; will the terrorists in TVB world confess to everything and be lectured with “You deserve this imprisonment” talk?
“Ron would make a fine secret agent. ”
But he doesn;t strike me as particularly smart or alert enough to be a secret agent. I may complain about Joe Ma but I think Joe Ma will make a fine secret agent since he is good at looking like he is in pain all the time. Ron just looks good as an undercover agent but secret agent? A bit of a stretch.
Is Wang Zi Bian Qing Wah/Frog Prince. the one where the actress is Wang something something, playing innocent sweet girl hugging sheeps? The actor is Ming something something is it? The one who looks awful when he took his shirt off?
@ Funn
I don’t mind the confession because I like to know exactly what happen. But, scriptwriters should do away with the lecture.
You comment reminds me of one ridiculous scene in Relic. Emperor’s will was missing and Sam Bo (Sammul) and Ngo Siu Fung (Michael) went to look for it plus trying to find out the murderer. They both discovered where the missing will is and also found out the killer. After the killer got tricked, he just stood there and asked Sam Bo and NSF how they knew he’s the murderer and Sam Bo/NSF explained in detail how they came to the conclusion. Then killer asked, ‘how do you know it’s me and not the other 2?’ Sam Bo/NSF again explained why they come to this conclusion.
It looks ridiculous. The murderer standing there having Q&A with the police/investigator.
@Funn,
Yea, Wang Zi Bian QIng Wah was the Taiwanese series starring Ming Dao. I don’t think he looks bad with his shirt off. I think you may be referring to someone else. No, there are not girls hugging any sheeps. The lead actress was Joe Chen Qiao En. It is about a rich guy who lost his memory and fell in love with a girl while losing his memory.
@Kidd,
Yea, I would have LOVED to see Ron in Relic which is why I miss series like the Four with Raymond, Sammuel, Ron and Kenneth all together. I really hope that they will have another series with more of them together. I am sad to not see Ron in Relic but hopefully he will be in other ancient series in the future. I still love him in Lost in the Chamber of Love with Michelle, Kenneth and Myolie. It was such a sweet series.
Losing memory and falling in love with poor girl. TVB done that already. 😀
The series stars Jacky Lui and Margie Tsang if I remember correctly.
@Kidd,
Yea, that theme has been used soo many times in Korean and Taiwanese series too. Therefore, TVB would of course use it as well.
To Grow With Love is said to copy this Frog Princess (rich guy lost memory).
Lol, I watched but dun know wat is so great with Frog Princess. In my opinion, another Taiwanese series named Love storm is a lot better than Frog Princess (but not too great as well). The remake of Hanakimi Taiwanese version is ok, but clearly that Hanakimi Japanese one is greater.
@ Fox
The remake of Hanakimi Taiwanese version is ok, but clearly that Hanakimi Japanese one is greater.
But, reading the synopsis of the manga, the Taiwan version seems more faithful to the source material.
@ Kidd: not really. If you read the manga then you will see both remake isn’t faithful. Hanakimi is one of my favourite shoujo mangas. Shun @ Hanakimi Japan has body of the character more than Wu Chun. The high jump look.
Kidd,
Jacky Lui left a very good impression on me after” Debts of a Lifetime,” the series in which he plays a rich heir with amnesia. The series also stars Gigi Fu and Hilary Tsui.
Jacky was quite fine in his prime days….
Speaking of espionage type films. Has anyone seen The Departed? Based on Infernal Affairs. That movie was awesome and gripping.
Didn’t Lee Tim Sing say something about Ron not liking to be in ancient series in his Be My Guest interview or was it being bald
Even if Ron doesn’t like it, if a good role comes along I don’t think he would let it pass by. I have heard a number of artists not like being in ancient series due to the extra work involved. However, I think the overall experience of being in ancient series is more exciting than being in a modern series. A lot of artists don’t mind being in ancient series and some really enjoy it.
A lot of ancient or non-modern series requires image change, lots of time for makeup or grueling fight/martial arts scenes.
Anita Yuen for example stated her preference for modern series because she doesn’t want to spent a long time for ancient hairdo and makeup.
Of course ancient series take a lot more time and work, but I feel that it is more exciting and rewarding in the end. Plus, you feel as if you just went back in to the past. I have noticed that many artists may complain about the time to prepare the hair, costumes and many other things, but some still enjoy being in ancient series.
@HTS, Not every artists’ passion for acting is that huge. Some treat is more as a job than an interest, but there are still some people like Steven Ma who is willing to shave his head bald for a Qing Dynasty costume drama.
For someone who enjoys ancient series, it may be fun, but the daily routine of applying make-up, getting into those elaborate costumes (for females), and having to bear the heaviness of the wigs (as those females did in Beyond the Realm of Conscience) combined with long working hours and a lack of sleep is really not that fun. I suppose some artists don’t mind the extra work, especially if you’re getting promoted like Tavia was in BTROC. Also, if they haven’t tried it and are new to the industry, they may want to try it or have no choice if TVB throw them in such a drama. I recall some artists from previous generation, especially Idy Chan, does not like filming ancient. She even specified that for her comeback series, it had to be modern.
Chriselle, normally when an artiste has atabilized and be able to make choices they will choose the more beneficial and fitting ones.
Anita Yuen might choose to forgo ancient series because she need some quality time for her child. In another example, Charmaine recently claimed that she’s avoiding filming in mainland in summer because of the harsh weather. Only established actresses can do this.
@ HTS
“Of course ancient series take a lot more time and work, but I feel that it is more exciting and rewarding in the end. “
It is exciting and rewarding when doing it a the first couple of time. But, after you have been there, done that, will it still be exciting?
“Plus, you feel as if you just went back in to the past. “
I bet only the viewers feel that. On site, there will be cameras, directors and crew members in modern clothing, card board back drop, fake stones, etc.
How ‘back to the past’ can one feel?
“I have noticed that many artists may complain about the time to prepare the hair, costumes and many other things, but some still enjoy being in ancient series.”
The only artist I know that states explicitly that she likes ancient series is Michelle Yim. The reason is because of the beautiful costume.
@Masaharu, I think Anita doesn’t like filming ancient in general regardless of whether she has a son or not. Today’s ancient series aren’t of high quality anymore so it’s not worth the time and effort. Anita also claims that she’ll rather have that extra time to make money elsewhere, which I totally agree and support. Back then, I suppose these opportunities were also much rarer.
@Kidd, You are right on spot with those rebuttals. 🙂
Costume series has its novelty. Isn’t an actor’s dream to be in a story where it does not reflect daily lives? Like westerners love cowboys movies, so it is for costume series. But true as well costume series is a pain to act. It is hot, sticky, involves plenty of difficult dialogues, situation only you can imagine, etc. Some actors do hate costume series, understandable. But I feel costume series has a better chance of being regarded as classics if done well. Anyway acting is a pretentious business, it is about pretending. That is how an actor functions anyway. Nothing is real; they conjure a sense of realism in the face of fantasy.
