Ruco Chan Angered by Nude Photo Gossip
A Hong Kong tabloid claimed that a selfie that Ruco Chan (陳展鵬) uploaded on his social media account contained a nude photo of himself and a topless woman in the background. The framed photo, which was taken near an ocean, was propped behind what appeared to be Ruco’s bed. Aside from his loose behavior, the report further claimed that Ruco has become arrogant with his popularity, asking for an exorbitant pay raise and exhibiting poor professional attitude at work. Ruco denied the tabloid’s claims and was angered by the slander that was bent on ruining his image.
Although the faces of the people in the topless photo cannot be seen, it was deduced that Ruco was in the picture since there is glimpse of a necklace similar to one that he had previously worn. When alerted of the questionable photo, Ruco deleted his upload afterward.
To colleagues and fans, Ruco seems like the perfect man – a dedicated actor, filial son, and one of TVB’s top eligible bachelors. Initially heavily promoted because of TVB executive Catherine Tsang (曾勵珍), Ruco has been said to exhibit arrogant behavior recently. When his contract was up for negotiation, he daringly requested a pay raise of ten times his old salary.
An insider said, “He previously asked a producer why he wasn’t chosen to be the lead actor. He kisses up to producers that use him, but won’t even greet those who don’t use him. His snobbish attitude is very clear, and he has upset quite a few people at the company. One time someone asked Moses Chan (陳豪) about his views about this generation of actors. Jason Chan (陳智燊) and Edwin Siu (蕭正楠) received praises, but when Ruco was mentioned, Moses became quiet.”
Despite the rumors of Ruco’s poor attitude, Eye in the Sky <天眼> co-star Kevin Cheng (鄭嘉穎) came to his rescue. Kevin denies that Ruco has any bad behavior, adding that there is rarely any good publicity for celebrities in today’s time. To Kevin, bad news will only make him work harder.
Ruco’s Response
Normally leading a low-profile lifestyle, Ruco responded angrily towards the latest tabloid report. He directed his response towards the media on his Weibo blog, “If this were the truth, I have nothing else to say. However, this has happened countless times and I really can’t stand it anymore. I just want to say one thing, please have mutual respect for each other.”
Angered by the report that tried to undermine his years of hard work, Ruco added, “Although I don’t [come forward] to clarify the matter, it doesn’t meant it’s true. It also doesn’t mean I’m afraid of trouble. A senior and friend told me that when the entertainment news features you, it just proves you are newsworthy.”

Ok guys, how many people have wooden walls at home? Didn’t someone mention that the photo was taken on a friend’s yacht? Don’t you guys agree that wooden walls are a standard feature on board a yacht cuz wood is lighter compared to concrete?Hence, I would tend to believe that the photo was not taken in his home so it’s highly unlikely to be him. Not that I see anything wrong even if it were him but since some people are so eager to hang him for this, might as well try to clear his name.
I honestly don’t see what’s the big deal with the photo. It seems like there’s only one man in the back…? I understand why some may think there’s a woman as well, but that looks more like an angle problem.

I knew you already realized this, but to confirm this even more, there are certainly two persons in the photo. I already asked 10 friends of mine, and 10 of them were also sure there were two persons in the photo. Their speculation on the gender of the person at the right side is quite divided, though.
Maybe the photo wasn’t taken in his bedroom, or maybe he wasn’t the one in the photo?

Moses Chan is already big brother of Txb for a long while and even if Ruco Chan reaches to big brother status, it will not be a threat to Moses Chan as long as Moses remains the good relationship with TVB and of course, management contract. These are enough reasons for Moses to be jealous of Ruco. Moreover, Moses’ popularity is dwindling. I remembered it was reported that he refused to collaborate with Ruco in Brother’s Keeper because he thinks Ruco is not good enough for him.
Glad he didn’t accept the role then. Edwin and Ruco actually look like brothers. Not to mention they had good chemistry too.

Well, I don’t know whether the person in the photo is a man or a woman, but if it were a man, I would suspect that he was his boyfriend. The reason is that I don’t think many straight men will put a photo of themselves with another naked man in their bedroom, let alone they post like a couple in the photo. Maybe those from the younger generation will do all these and don’t mind/care, but this actor is certainly from the older generation in my eyes and therefore might be more traditional and is more aware of this thing.
The conclusion? Whether it’s a man or a woman, that person is certainly his lover from the way they post in the photo. Or maybe it is not his bedroom or the person in the photo is not him?

Unfortunately, suing doesn’t work anymore — otherwise, Next Media wouldn’t still be in business with all the lawsuits that they get on a weekly/daily basis (and Next Media’s chairman Jimmy Lai wouldn’t be the most hated man in HK). I remember reading how it took Alan Tam 6 years to win a lawsuit against one of HK’s infamous tabloids over a false, defamatory article they wrote about him — and all he gained in the end was a written apology from the tabloid (imagine wasting 6 years in a court battle only to get some stupid “I’m sorry” letter!). Most celebrities don’t have the time and energy to spend years pursuing a lawsuit against those trashy tabloids, which is why many of them choose to respond via social media or issue a statement through their management company (or not respond at all in some cases).
On a related note — I like Kevin’s response (if that’s truly how he responded that is)…and it’s definitely true that there is “rarely any good publicity for celebrities in today’s time”. Sad and pathetic (that’s the HK Media for you) but unfortunately very very true…

That is the point. An apology and retracting the article will show it was a fake article and it wasn’t true. Other articles maybe not but this particular one is beyond decent journalism. It was like long piece of hate mail. If it is true fine. If it isn’t and Ruco is upset enough, he should sue to get apology and a compensation to prove a point.
@Funn: Yes, true, but if it takes years to get that apology, is it really worth it? Plus all the time, energy, and money he will need to spend….with how quickly most HK audiences forget things, this will likely be old news by next week when other ‘bigger’ gossip comes up.
Of course, at the end of the day, it really depends on the severity of the issue and also how Ruco feels about it… if he feels strongly enough about it, then by all means sue….but personally, unless it’s something major that truly has the potential to do harm or involves a life and death situation or is truly a defamation of character, reputation, etc. (like in Alan Tam’s case in which the tabloid implied that he was involved in prostitution, which could have resulted in legal implications for him if he hadn’t proven that the article was false), I wouldn’t allow some stupid tabloid to make my life a living hell for the next 5 to 10 years by fighting with them in court over such an issue….but of course, that’s just my opinion….Ruco can do as he pleases.
Actually, I think Ruco is not even in the framed photo. If this selfie was taken in a yacht (hence the wooden walls), it’s likely that he’s just in a guest bedroom with that framed photo on the wall as furnishing. I have read the article. It’s all nonsense! Ruco took this pic in his bed at home? It didn’t make sense for him to wear sunglasses in bed! His fans said it was taken at his friend’s yacht. The photo was posted by him in his facebook when he updated in his long neglected facebook, fans didn’t believe and not long later this picture was posted. I assume he was at home, taking a cheeky picture. But since now you said he is on a friend’s yacht, it lends credence that picture isn’t his or if his is with a male friend.
Taken at friend’s yacht is another possibility. That type of photo of seas and beaches probably fits in perfectly in such a setting. Ruco lives with his mom, it’s highly unlikely that he’ll hang a picture like that in a place where his mom can walk in and out freely ( though for a guy who lives alone it probably won’t raise an eyebrow).
I still support Ruco after the nude photo shows on apple news daily. To what I see Ruco is a good guy also a good actor. Moses Chan dislikes Ruco, because Moses is afraid Ruco will take over his place in TVB. Haha!!Also Apple daily news shouldn’t step on Ruco,it is not nice at all, since Ruco already bad luck for so so many years in the entertainment industry. A photo can be easily misconstrued, an innocently taken one made into a ‘dirty’ one. Poor Ruco is obviously careful over his reputation and that is why he is very angry over the doubtful report which is obviously trying to smear his character. I’m glad that Kevin stood up for him. I’m not saying that Moses has ill intention towards Ruco or that the incident really happened as the source is unverified but out of these 3 names, Ruco’s the one who’s posing the strongest threat to Moses’ position in TVB. Edwin and especially Jason still have a long way to go.

Other than the topless pic, every accusation being leveled at Ruco in this latest article is old news with lots of embellishments specifically designed with malicious intent to damage his reputation. It’s disgusting to think that Next would stoop so low to destroy a man who has painstakingly slogged in this business for so many years to reach where he is today. It sickens me, a bystander, to the core and I can only imagine how much worse Ruco feels. This article is nothing but pure slander. Ruco has never hidden the fact that he’s a smoker. It’s not as if he condemned smoking publicly but is a smoker secretly, so i don’t see how that makes him a hypocrite as alleged. As for diva attitude, that’s ridiculous cos he certainly isn’t stupid enough to think that he can keep this under wraps from the public eye with PAs ever ready to rat on him given the slightest opportunity. If he did indeed ask for a 10x raise in salary, this is long overdue as someone else here has pointed out. As the saying goes “Strike while the iron is hot”. If he has value, TVB will be more than willing to accommodate him, what’s wrong with asking to be paid his market value? TVB is not a charity organisation anyway and Ruco’s probably very much underpaid under his old contract. And the topless pic which triggered this whole thing, i don’t see how it makes him immoral or loose. It’s not as if he was caught with a roomful of porn materials or is into child porn or is a pedophile or sex maniac or he’s into call girls. There have been fabricated articles about him in the past but this one has crossed the limit of decency and the writer has no sense of moral responsibility whatsoever. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve this type of feeling about a lot of other artistes, male and female. But never with Ruco and I’m speaking from personal encounters with him as well as my observation of his encounters with other fans, also from watching his interviews and his interaction with his colleagues at promos and other events. I don’t see a diva at all. All I see is a humble low key guy who’ll not fight for the limelight, a true gentleman who always listens intently when others are talking and who always gives them a chance to talk before him. With fans, he’s always obliging and I get the feeling he’s truly appreciative since he earned his current popularity through a lot of hard work and struggle. I think your opinion is just influenced by the negative news you read about him.

I myself think of Next as slanderous and twisted fact style, however their sources of scandals have basement, definitely not pure fabricated. Like that, the truth is 20% and Next blows it to 100%.
I do not say that you said Moses is jealous, but there are some other fans who said such thing. Well, it is pretty hard to convince me that Moses is merely jealous at Ruco because I do not find any reason for him to feel threaten or jealous at Ruco. Ruco’s status is still lower than Moses 2-3 ranks in Txb’s eyes and his pairing with Aimee is not that popular to make Moses jealous. Hence there is a possibility that Next has some truth on their reason (but like I stated above, that truth is indeed exaggerated).

@Alluka, Moses’ popularity is declining particularly overseas while Ruco is red hot. Next is always writing nonsense not just about Ruco but everyone who can help them sell mags. I have been a silent fans of Ruco, but this time, I have to spell out that Next Magazine is a total rubbish. Ruco is a good guy. Without him, I won’t watch TBB. He is a really good actor compare to others famous male actors in TBB. After such malicious reporting, I love him more.
As HK ppl, we should be proud to have an excellent new generation(age) actor like Ruco. Meanwhile, we are shameful to have such ugly media like nexx.
Next Magazine shouldn’t step on Ruco. Ruco already had bad luck for so so many years in the entertainment industry until TOT in 2011. He has been underpaid for a long time. I remember hearing an interview that he said he struggled whether he should leave ATV and join TBB since TBB was only 1/3 of ATV’s pay, meaning a cut down of 66.7% of the pay. Luckily, he got support from his daddy and mother. So, he has been far far underpaid for many many years under the old contract. So I think it is justified that when he negotiates new contract with TBB, he deserves to ask for a pay raise.
A raise is definitely in order for Ruco, if not now while he has value, then when? If he asked for 10x his old salary, TVB can either pay him that if they deem him worth it or show him the door if they don’t think he deserves it. Sounds like pure jealousy to me. The stupid writer shld ask himself if he will continue to work for peanuts without asking for a raise from his boss after “n” number of years.
He is really underpaid and his acting is FAR better the Moses or even Wayne Lai.
Is it possible for TVB to banned Next Media?
They already did — TVB banned Next Media last year (TVB artists aren’t allowed to interview with any publication associated with Next Media and Next reporters are not allowed to set foot in TVB City). In fact, many speculate that this is a big reason why Next Media has been targeting TVB and publishing alot of negative reports about TVB as well as its artists.
The sad thing is, the banning hasn’t helped — all it did was make Next Media even more relentless in targeting TVB. Unfortunately, as long as people continue to buy/support Next Media’s publications, they are never going to stop their antics. In fact, things will only get worse given the current media culture in HK….

When I first heard about the news. I thought it would be a very detailed scandalous picture showing him in bed with someone.
It turns out to be a picture of a nude torso of a man and woman. What more, the picture was so unclear that it took me a some minutes to see what’s the matter with the picture. Please really has sharp eyes.

Ruco doesn’t come across as conservative guy to me, what it’s him baring his whole back including part of his bottom in that one of his travelogue show picture.
