Ruco Chan Crowned Singapore’s TV King a Second Time
Ruco Chan (陳展鵬) took home his second Best Actor win at the sixth annual StarHub TVB Awards in Singapore last night, becoming the first actor to be crowned Singapore’s TV King two years in a row.
The annual awards ceremony, which celebrates TVB productions in Singapore, was held at the Marina Bay Sands Singapore on October 24. Hosted by Carol Cheng (鄭裕玲), Amigo Choi (崔建邦), and Derek Li (李浩林), a total of seventeen awards were handed out to over twenty TVB artists.
Winning Best Actor for his role as the Eleventh Prince in Captain of Destiny <張保仔>, Ruco Chan had set a record last night for being the first actor to win Singapore’s TV King two years in a row. He won the same honor last year for his performance in Ruse of Engagement <叛逃>. Captain of Destiny, which also stars Tony Hung (洪永城) and Grace Chan (陳凱琳), won My Favorite TVB Drama.
Liza Wang (汪明荃) was crowned as this year’s TV Queen for her performance in Limelight Years <華麗轉身>. Upon receiving her award, she thanked her costar, Damian Lau (劉松仁), for supporting her.
Rosina Lam (林夏薇) was in tears when she was awarded the Supporting Actress honor for her scene-stealing role in the idol drama Young Charioteers <衝線>. Vincent Wong (王浩信) landed his first Supporting Actor award for his performance in last year’s Tomorrow Is Another Day <再戰明天>. Costar Lawrence Ng (吳啟華) also took home a My Favorite TV Character award for his starring performance.
Tracy Chu (朱千雪) won Most Improved TVB Artist for her work in Tomorrow Is Another Day, Smooth Talker <以和為貴>, and The Fixer <拆局專家>. Former Miss Hong Kong Grace Chan won Best New TVB Artist and a sponsored award, Tokyo Bust Express the Sassy Award. Onscreen-turned-real life couple Priscilla Wong (黃翠如) and Edwin Siu (蕭正楠), snagged the My Favorite TVB Onscreen Couple award with Madam Cutie On Duty <師奶MADAM>.
In the variety category, Tony Hung’s North Korean adventure Not Far But Away <在那遙遠的地方> won My Favorite TVB Informative Program. Golden onscreen couple, Liza Wang and Adam Cheng (鄭少秋) garnered the My Favorite TVB Variety Show Hosts award for their nostalgic musical program Sunday Songbird <Sunday靚聲王>, which also won My Favorite TVB Variety Program. The legendary duo won the Star of the Stars award as well.
The telecast for the 2015 StarHub TVB Awards will first premiere on TVB Jade on November 1.

However rubbish the ending is or rubbish the series is or rubbish overall it may be, Ruco is the deserving winner because without him and his fine performance, the series would have been a rubbish trash compost heap of waste.
Thank you Ruco!!
@funnlim
SPOILER ALERT!!!
I kinda like the twist earlier in the drama. Ruco was so convincing as the baddie leading us on that he planned to borrow Mui’s hand in killing CPT. I thought that was pretty brilliant.
@isay i meant to say the twist in the last episode

@funnlim: Totally agree. COD would have been a major flop without Ruco. Like many others, I watched COD only becoz of Ruco. And he is so deserving of this Best Actor award in this Starhub TVB award. In fact I was surprised that he won again this year as no actor/actress has won it back-to-back. Plus knowing how political TVB is, his win was a pleasant surprise for many of his fans. So he has made history! He was the saving grace so he totally deserved this award. I am so loving this man and his 11th prince Man Ho character. Totally got poisoned by him!! 🙂
@lml1977 i watched forensic heroes 3 with Ruco…he looked great as Jim Fong…actually he really looks good, so suave and so eye candy.
Sigh.
Best New TVB Artist
Grace Chan — Overachievers, Raising the Bar, Captain of Destiny
Perhaps, YES and the one which sets her back. Since Tracy Chu is most improved, I suppose I do agree she is the best new artist. I mean who else?
“Tavia Yeung as Jan Ng — Eye In the Sky”
Ok, I take back any praise I may have for this award. Blind.
@funnlim tavia won a fave character role, nothing to do with acting ability or depth of character , ;just need lots of fan support. As for Ruco not getting a fave character award as well as BA, suffice to say he was robbed again. In previous years the BA came from one of the fave characters unlike this yr. Liza didn’t win a fave character award either. Fans wouid hv voted in both categories so it’s strange this yr for them to not win the fave character just becos they won BA.
@isay: Yeah, I was wondering why Ruco didn’t win the My Fave Character award. Every year, the Best Actor winner would come from 1 of these Fave Characters. Surely, his fans would have voted him in both categories. Of coz, Best Actor is the most prestigious award but please don’t rob him of what he deserves. Anyway, I suppose Starhub and TVB can change the rules of the game as they fancy.
@lml1977 that is right. It is very annoying that they had to rob Peter to give it to Paul. No way can i believe that 11th prince didn’t win a fave character award. I would think this character is easily one of the most popular out of all the 15 (?) nominees in this category if not the most popular. Anyways the BA is the top prize and the Fave Character award is just a consolation prize. We’ll just take it that 11th prince is the implied winner of fave character award too.
Yes ! so proud of Ruco for winning the BA award back -to-back. We never thought it was possible especially since Ruco doesnt have a strong backer in the management ranks. But he was really outstanding as Man Ho no doubts about it. Really a well deserved winner!
@isay: Yeah…agree with you. Ruco does not have a strong backer in TVB. What he has achieved thus far is through his sheer hardwork and talent. Good roles, big productions do not fall on his lap automatically. Of coz, I am thankful to Amy Wong for casting him as the male lead in The Other Truth in 2011 which catapulted his career to leading man status in TVB. I only wish that he will be cast in good dramas with co-stars that are in the same calibre as him. All these years, he is cast either in poor scripts and/or with not-so-great actors/actresses.
@funnlim Sisley? Lol
No but seriously if I only had 2 options, Grace and Sisley, I’d rather pick Sisley. Looks like Grace was the only one got nominated so yeah who else lmao
@kaykay408 no not sisley! I’d rather Kelly. I still, prefer grace but she needs to buck up and bulk up.
@funnlim Tracy chu is sweet in that prison drama. She is better than grace…the most improved should go to Tracy.
Ruco’ role as baddie in Eye in the sky is convincing…he portrayed a baddie well. As a viewer, I felt heartache for him not getting to enjoy a happy family.
As 11th prince, he is definitely my hero. Congrats on winning twice in a row.
@funnlim I really don’t understand how she can get so many awards…Ruco should be the one to get best actor for COD and the award to sing COD 插曲.
Congratulations Ruco !!! … im also diligently voting in the Malaysia Awards everyday, hopefully the results will be good.
at least Kenneth Ma and Noblesse Oblique has a nomination in the Singapore awards … kenneth is not even nominated in the malaysia awards, neither does noblesse oblique have a nomination =(
Ruco’s character Zheng Lik Hang in Eye In The Sky has no nominations either in the malaysia awards =( … so there is no choice but to pour all the votes into Captain Of Destiny.
happy that Eye In The Sky win some awards, especially the themesong.
Tomorrow Is Another Day is also in this year’s awards?
@anneyen yes , also Overachievers as they did not meet the cut off date last yr i think. Ruco’s win was well deserved. We all saw for ourselves how he acted his heart out in COD. Fans like me who spent days and nites voting for him are elated with joy! Congrats to Ruco! Hope you win big at astro and HK too.
Yeah it’s so unfair why some people hv 2 nominations in the fave character category but Ruco who performed well in Eits has only one. Guess the organisers dont what him to win 2 prizes in this category. I’m also shocked that Kenneth has been dropped completely from Astro voting.
@isay Ruco did very well for COD, ruse of engagement and eye in the sky. He is GOOD.
@anneyen ya..same thought with you, im surprised that for the star awards malaysia, noblesse oblige is totally left out and ignored. i thought that series released early this year is considered pretty good and kenneth ma is not bad in it. i remember the drama is quite entertaining. tomorrow is another day is in singapore’s awards this year because the series only aired in singapore this year while it has been aired in hong kong and malaysia last year.
@isay @vinceboy … oh yah, i remember that starhUB awards was some time around June or July last year, but its October this year … its really a dissapointment to a TVB fan like me that my favourite dramas most of the time don’t get nomination in the star awards … if not mistaken, I think was not nominated last year … I remember correctly was not nominated at all for any category although it was the most popular first hslf year drama, ruco’s best actor nomination in Malaysia was for that year … and this year, totally nothing for , and no ruco nomination for despite being so popular … well, since that is the only option available, no choice but to put everything in
the star awards Malaysia just like to cut away all the ‘mature’ , ‘sophisticated’ and ‘serious content’ dramas from their nomination =( … guess they think that the market here prefers light hearted and shallow minded dramas, which may be true … probably my preference is a minority here =P
@anneyen isnt one is enough? Eits isnt exactly award worthy. Neither is cod but his performance is.
@isay @vinceboy … oh yah, i remember that starhUB awards was some time around June or July last year, but its October this year … its really a dissapointment to a TVB fan like me that my favourite dramas most of the time don’t get nomination in the star awards … if not mistaken, I think `tomorrow is another day’ was not nominated last year … I remember correctly ‘ruse of engagement’ was not nominated at all for any category although it was the most popular first half year drama, ruco’s best actor nomination in Malaysia was for ‘outbound love’ that year … and this year, totally nothing for ‘noblese oblique’, and no ‘eye in the sky’ ruco nomination for despite being so popular … well, since that is the only option available, no choice but to put everything in ‘captain of destiny’ in the star awards Malaysia just like to cut away all the ‘mature’ , ‘sophisticated’ and ‘serious content’ dramas from their nomination =( … guess they think that the market here prefers light hearted and shallow minded dramas, which may be true … probably my preference is a minority here =P
Liza Wang and Ruco Chan are well deserved winners but some of the other winners, I am not too happy about! Linda Chung winning my fav character has got be a joke. her bulging eyed madam was SURE loved by everyone. LOL. The TVB songs are going downhill hence the Eye in the Sky theme winning, it was not a good song!
@ceejay linda is very popular in SG. Her events are always well supported by SG fans. Like i explained earlier fave character just needs to be popular.
Eits song is one that grows on you. I didn’t like it at first but after listening to it a couple of times i think it’s nice.

@freedalas well well, her nom was for Tiger cubs 2 not limelight years so it’s either this or nothing.

@freedalas Linda did better than expected in Limelight Years, the drama was underrated and deserves more recognition.

@freedalas Linda behaved like some mad dog on the loose in tiger cubs. She stomped around with murderous looking eyes.

@ceejay agree to all ur comments. liza wang and ruco chan are the two most stand out this year. no one else so far before we are going to see the Lord of Shanghai.
Congratulation, Liza Wang and Ruco Chan. They are well deserved winners!!!!! Hope Ruco will get the reward in Malaysia too.
Could Ruco have chosen a gawdier suit and tie??!! It took all his handsomeness away. I thought Kenneth looked neat and handsome, Lawrence looked dapper in his tux, the best looking male was Tony, he looked very handsome that night.
The best looking female was Linda Chung of course, Nancy’s gown was nice, Rosina has a pretty face, Tracy has the height, Priscilla the personality but none had Linda’s elegance, Eliza and Grace looked like high school prom girls next to Linda.
@genxx11 Ruco is a winner…maybe that’s why he was given such an outstanding suit. It did compete with his chiseled good looks. What the heck, Ruco won…hope his career continues to go upwards.
@genxx11: Ruco’s pants were way too loose. I didn’t mind the jacket though…he can carry it off given he has such an athletic physique. Just love this guy’s face and body. To me, he is the embodiment of an almost perfect guy — good looks, talented, great body, althletic, genuine, sincere personality and a good person. He can do no wrong in my eyes ! 🙂
@lml1977 Exactly right! He has great athletic physique, very lean and fit, gorgeous sexy man. He looked great from waist up but i hated that pair of grandpa pants! A tighter fit plus that jacket and that handsome face and we’d be passing out on the red carpet!
@isay: Yes yes, he is very very sexy and he exudes this so naturally without him realizing it. I wished he had won a pants with a better fit. Yeah, with that to-die-for face and body and great clothes, most fans will nose bleed and pass out that day!!! Recently he wore a pair of tight, ripped jeans to the COD celebration dinner in HK. OMG he looked so hot…super super sexy. Actually, I don’t care what he wears…give me Ruco any time any day !!!
@lml1977 he’s so hot even without having to try!
The best looking female was Linda Chung of course, Nancy’s gown was nice, Rosina has a pretty face, Tracy has the height Priscilla the personality but none had Linda’s elegance, Eliza and Grace looked like high school prom girls next to Linda.
Congrats! Ruco is a brilliant actor and he deserves to win
TVB might not give BA to Ruco this year even though he is well deserved. Ruco might only get the favorite character award for the 11th Prince. The BA award might go to Wayne, Bobby or Anthony. For some reasons, He is not as popular in HK as in Singapore and Malaysia.
@etnngo I don’t think that is a reason. It’s probably TVB’s policy to reward the seniors over the younger ones, sort of a hierarchy thing. Personally I think it’s easier to act as a villain than a good character. A good character in the hands of a incompetent actor will come across as bland. Conversely an incompetent actor may be OTT in villain roles but I think it’s easier to be an OTT villain than to make a good character believable/interesting.
Surprised that EITS did not get a nomination, but still happy for Ruco, he deserved in haha!!!
On a side note, am i the only one who is happy abt Rosina’s win, she improved alot !!!
