Ruco Chan Supports Bobby Au Yeung and Wayne Lai for TV King
Winning TV King in Singapore, Ruco Chan (陳展鵬) said he does not expect himself to repeat the same success at the upcoming TVB Anniversary Awards, and is instead placing his bet on With or Without You’s <東坡家事> Bobby Au Yeung (歐陽震華) and Lord of Shanghai’s <梟雄> Wayne Lai (黎耀祥) to win Best Actor.
On Friday, Ruco won My Favorite Actor at Singapore’s StarHub TVB Awards for his performance in the TVB anniversary drama Captain of Destiny <張保仔>, which also won My Favorite TVB Drama. The cast and crew of the historical sci-fi series gathered together for a celebratory banquet on Sunday, where they also watched the drama’s final episode airing that night.
Due to his filming obligations for the martial arts drama Heroes of the Walled City <城寨英雄>, Ruco left the party early. However, he did manage to spend some little time with his fans, who filled up three tables at the banquet to support him.
When speaking about winning TV King in Singapore, Ruco said the award is a result from the hard efforts of the cast and crew. The 38-year-old actor said he received many blessings and congratulatory messages from his friends and colleagues when he returned to Hong Kong from Singapore, all which touched him deeply. He joked that he would probably be celebrating his win until December.
“I never thought about winning [again],” said Ruco. “I actually wasn’t planning on coming tonight because of my filming schedule, but I decided to come anyway to express my gratitude.”
Asking if he has the confidence to win an award at the upcoming TVB Anniversary Awards, Ruco said, “I have confidence every year. If I don’t, then that would be a disrespect to the viewers who have spent so much time voting for me. A good role is not the efforts of one person, but the entire team.”
Although Captain of Destiny won best drama at the StarHub TVB Awards, he does not think the series would win the honor a second time at the TVB Anniversary Awards, which will be coming in December. He said, “I haven’t seen Lord of Shanghai yet and I’m really looking forward to it. Of course, I also hope Captain of Destiny would get good results as well. Lord of Shanghai has a very big cast. Captain of Destiny is one of the first dramas to have so much CGI, so there’s still a lot of room left for improvement.”
Ruco also said he supports With or Without You’s Bobby Au Yeung and Lord of Shanghai’s Wayne Lai to win Best Actor.
“I know Wayne plays a very cruel villain. Very explosive character. And it’s been a while since people have seen Bobby on TV. If you ask me, then I really hope to see either of them win [TV King].”

well so that you guys don’t say i’m a diehard fan of Ruco, I have watched the promo for Lord Of Shanghai and it looks more realistic because there is no CGI. Looking forward to seeing Wayne! (for all you know Wayne might win for the what, third time?)

Don’t know how good Lord of Shanghai will be but at the moment Ruco Chan’s performance as 11th Prince has been the most outstanding performance so far this year so I’m really confident he’ll be proper competition for Wayne, Bobby and Anthony.

Ruco is a clear winner. It’s not only his looks, but also his capability. In this industry, looks are important…Ruco did a great job as baddie in EITS and Bowie. As 11th prince, he is a true hero. Tvb, don’t let this guy slip through your fingers.

Congratulations Ruco!! Well deserved. As for TVB award.. may be harder as Wayne is a fine actor too and LOS may get high rating due to the cast.. and you know how TVB works.. they give award to drama with high rating most of the time.
Just finished watching 2 new series today, the one with Bobby which was very very funny(and beautiful scenery) and Anthony Wong (which was dramatic and for once so many people).
If Anthony keeps it up, he is winning. Sorry Ruco, you’re top 3. But Anthony Wong in that 30 seconds between not knowing and knowing his mentor died was superb acting. Ron Ng can learn from him. And why is Ron Ng is in it? Kenneth Ma also?

@funnlim with all respect for anthony but he shouldnt be included in this league and competing with ruco,kenneth or other tvb siu san’s. a multiple crowned best movie-actor should compete with his own class like tony leung,tony leung ka fei,sean lau or francis ng. anthony has of course better acting but he has also 20 years more acting experience than ruco.
@kolo Yes. He probably will be included but I don’t think he’ll win. He said himself he’d rather have Wayne win because the award isn’t as meaningful to him as the other TVB actors since he’s not going to continuously film for TVB.
@kolo if anthony declines then ok. But if he doesnt then the award is unfair and the winner may win against weaker opponents which is not glorious. If truly public votes i wouldnt worry much. Anthony isnt exactly a looker. There is no such thing as a category based on yrs of experience. If like that yeah tvb had the joke award called veteran award didnt they? Rename best actor as best actor but not totally… To be the best compete with the best. It isnt abt being the best amongst mediocre.
Get ready with grace in newcomer award if there is one or most improved!

@funnlim You are wrong, Many people said Anthony Wong acting is strange with voice in that drama.. that scene wasn’t touching.. it’s strange to see Anthony Wong as the main lead. Kent Tong and Wayne acting is better than Anthony Wong.

Wayne was a tad ott. Kent was never a great actor and he was weakest of the 3 supporting casts were good too.

@funnlim I agree that Anthony was great in that scene. The emotion was very subtle but full of it too. It was like he’s hurt but he can’t show bc he’s tai gor tai. Not many viewers appreciate that which is fine bc everyone has their own likes and preferences. It’s jusy different than your usual tvb ott, show all emotions and wear it on your sleeve acting.
I disagree that Anthony should be exclude feom nomination. If anything, it brings up the value & appreciate the award if he’s in it. Other siu sangs get to say I got nom with Anthony! Lol.
Oh Anthony is a much more flexible actor than Kent. I do like the latter’s voice though. So soothing.
@jjwong @funnlim I agree with both of you. Anthony’s acting is top notch – with his facial expressions alone, already blows everyone else out of the water. I actually noticed that same scene as Funn did and the first thought that crossed my mind when I watched was: now THAT’s the way it should be done!!! Unfortunately, not everyone will understand or appreciate Anthony’s style of acting, as it is so different from the usual OTT style that most are used to with TVB. I’m looking forward to Anthony’s performance, even though I’m not really that impressed with Lord of Shanghai’s story at the moment. The rest of the cast was pretty good so far, though of course, it’s only episode 1 and typical TVB, the series will probably start off strong and then go downhill midway through.
Also, about Ruco and TV King award – if anything, I would think that his fans would want him to be nominated against the likes of Anthony and Wayne, as he’s competing against the best of the best. There’s no glory in winning something that you’re a ‘shoo-in’ for due to the rest of the competition being weak / mediocre. Besides, it’s not necessarily about ‘winning’ the award – I’m sure Ruco would feel it is an honor to just be competing alongside Anthony and Wayne and giving them a run for their money even if he doesn’t win.
@llwy12 ep 2 and still good even if wayyyyy too many people to remember. Tvb is lacking young men as evidenced in this series! Wayne a bit strange though so my guess he is probably 2nd oldest but physically oldest. Anthony from,small,town and Kent is probably highest education. His wife shld be someone who fought an,empire with him. Imagine sheren in that role. Am waiting for flashback. Kenneth is in here somewhere.
Cod can get best cgi if new category created and maybe how to turn back the clocks for 3 actors may yet deserve a nomination!!
And I agree on ruco nominated amongst the greats. He may win. After all it is part popularity contest.

@funnlim Glad to hear that episode 2 is still good – will check it out tonight. Agreed that there are way too many people to remember, but I’m actually fine with it as long as their roles make sense and it’s not one of those ‘stand around and do nothing’ type situations (hopefully that continues to be the case). This will obviously be a male-centric series though, so I doubt any of the female roles will be well-developed or even significant for that matter, which is why I wouldn’t want a great actress like Sheren to be in any of the roles, since it would be a huge waste of her talent. I’m also interested in seeing how Kenneth will do, since he will be playing the younger version of Anthony’s character – those are hard shoes to fill, especially given Anthony’s acting skills, so not sure whether Kenneth will be able to pull it off.
As for the awards – lol…it’s very possible that TVB may be desperate enough to create new categories just so that they can have certain favorites win something and not go home empty-handed. They’ve done it several times before so the likelihood of them doing it again is pretty high, especially this year of all years with practically every series doing so poorly – they need a few ‘pork’ awards that audiences most likely won’t care much about to ‘even’ things out a bit…

I’d rather Anthony plays his younger self. Kenneth may spoil the picture. I am now hoping the flashback is short.
So far the wives are interesting women, best is Alice as Kent’s long suffering wife. Quite an entrance and I feel Sheren is perfect for that role even if Alice is ok. A strong woman sort of role. Everyone is ok. Even Ron. The supporting casts are the interesting ones. Not a waste of talent to take a smaller role if it is a significant role. No point every scene got that actor when he or she bombs, like that other pirate show and that 2 leads. Ruco should be in this kind of show! He should play someone’s younger self!!

@sojin000 Anthony accent is explained why in the drama. Something about he’s drom Hac Ga or Fook Gane, I can’t remember exactly.

Ruco deserves to win the 2015 H K TV King award, he is a versatile actor and able to perform complex forms of acting as seen in Captain In Destiny, I expect him to win. The oldies had won many rounds, its time for younger Ruco to win. He is very popular in Asia and had won twice TV King awards!
Ruco does have a huge fanbase in south east asia. I expect him to win in malaysia.
Yea, I think Ruco will win BA outside of HK but not in HK. He doesn’t seem to be like bu HK TVB mgt, which is a poty.
