Ruco Chan’s Girlfriend Buys Red Underwear Briefs For Him
Portraying a handsome lawyer in The Other Truth <真相>, Ruco Chan (陳展鵬) was extremely popular among housewives and office ladies. Thirty-four-year-old Ruco Chan secured the new title of “Lady Killer.” Since his popularity increased, negative rumors followed. Earlier there were rumors that he and The Other Truth co-star, Natalie Tong (唐詩詠), were involved, while other rumors claimed that he was dating Ma Su (馬蘇). However, these were only fabricated rumors. The truth is that Ruco and 2008 Miss Asia, Eunis Yiu (姚佳雯), were living together for two years and did not break up yet.
To save his career, Ruco turned his relationship with Eunis underground, while announcing that he was single to the public. When he first entered the industry, Ruco was noted to physically resemble Andy Lau (劉德華). Apparently, Ruco even copied Andy’s gesture of hiding his girlfriend! Currently promoted by TVB, Ruco knew that TVB wished their artists to handle their love lives understatedly. In an earlier interview with Sudden Weekly, Ruco stated that he was currently single, while noting he was loyal in love.
Girlfriend Purchased Red Underwear For Ruco
In fact, Ruco has very few romantic rumors. Since meeting Eunis Yiu in 2008, the pair dated and moved in together. Six months ago, Sudden Weekly photographed Ruco and Eunis Yiu shopping together at 3 PM. The pair were at Tsim Sha Tsui’s Ocean Center purchasing skincare products. Although Ruco’s popularity was far from his current level at the time, he still appeared cautious. Eunis was originally linking arms with boyfriend, Ruco. When they entered a crowded area, Ruco gently pulled away from Eunis’ hand.
After purchasing skincare products, Ruco and Eunis entered a Calvin Klein store together at approximately 6 PM. Eunis selected a pair of Calvin Klein red briefs for $220 HKD for Ruco, who waited outside the store. Perhaps the mall grew increasingly crowded, Eunis and Ruco parted ways to do their shopping and took separate taxis home.
Neighbors Heard Love Making Sounds
With his increased popularity, Ruco was very cautious in avoiding reporters following him. Each time he drove his car out and discovered reporters tailgating him, he would slow down and spin around several times to lose the reporters. It was apparent that he was very careful in protecting his love life.
A recent tabloid revealed that a neighbor living next to Ruco and Eunis’ home complained that there were love making noises coming from the couple’s apartment! When the reporter confronted Eunis about the matter, she laughed loudly. She denied dating Ruco, “I am only very, very good friends with Ruco. I admire him; he is so successful….”
After winning the 2008 Miss Asia title, Eunis Yiu hosted variety programs at ATV. Ruco was acting and hosting programs at the same time, thus the pair met and started dating, eventually moving in with each other. While at ATV, Ruco’s salary was not high. However, Eunis stated that she did not mind supporting her boyfriend. “When selecting a boyfriend, do I want him to have money or be handsome? I will say handsome because my current boyfriend does not have money. He is very tall and handsome. If he does not mind, I will earn money to support him!”
In a February 2010 interview, Eunis revealed that her relationship with her boyfriend was stable. “We have been dating for three years. We normally exchange gifts. When we get married, I will be a virtuous wife and learn how to prepare soups….” The boyfriend Eunis was referring to was Ruco Chan.
Keeping Relationship Underground to Save Career
An TVB inside source revealed, “Every TVB artist is the same. You know from looking at Raymond Lam (林峯) and Ron Ng (吳卓羲). When Ruco signed a contract with TVB, the company reminded him to handle rumors carefully. Since TVB vowed to heavily promote him, of course Ruco will be careful! If he offended TVB, then he will hurt himself. In addition, his girlfriend is in ATV, which is still the rival studio and presents an awkward situation. To avoid public scrutiny, they have been spreading news that they broke up for over a year. To avoid the media taking photos of them together, they will not go outside to date and will only cook at home.”
Recently, Ruco has been busy filming ATF Counter Terrorism Unit <ATF反恐> and did not have time to spend with his girlfriend. He hoped to maximize the next few years to establish himself as a leading actor. Twenty-six-year-old Eunis mentioned to Ruco that she wanted to get married. However, Ruco wished to wait. Recently the pair spent more time apart than together.
Past Roles
Ruco Chan has been floating in the entertainment industry for 17 years. In 1994, he joined the 7th Annual TVB acting training class. He appeared in numerous series, including Instinct <笑看風雲> and Cold Blood Warm Heart <天地男兒> in minor roles. In 1998, he signed with Polygram and released four songs. His music contract was terminated when Universal acquired Polygram. He appeared in numerous films, including Category III films such as Rape Trap <強姦陷阱> and Trust Me U Die <新羔羊醫生>.
In 2002, Ruco signed with ATV and led numerous series. In 2004, he partnered with Ma Jing Tao (馬景濤) in Love in a Miracle <愛在有情天> and sang the duet theme song with Amy Chan (陳秀雯). Ruco hosted numerous variety programs and appeared fully nude in a travelogue in Taiwan in 2004. Unfortunately, his career did not truly pick up.
In 2008, Ruco returned to TVB and filmed The King of Snooker <桌球天王>, A Great Way to Care <仁心解碼>, and Burning Flame 3 <烈火雄心 3>. Within three years, he shockingly filmed sixteen series. Allegedly he was favored by TVB executive, Catherine Tsang, and filmed in series after series. Ruco was cast by Producer Amy Wong in The Other Truth <真相> and his popularity increased dramatically. He will also be appearing in the upcoming Forensic Heroes 3 <法證先鋒 III>, Return to the Three Kingdoms <回到三國>, and ATF Counter Terrorism Unit <ATF反恐>.

This is stereotyping and boxing people up. A person can have many sides to him. Who says a person who has manly looks must only do ‘manly’ things and own ‘manly’ possession?

This is my gut feeling and I stick by it. I strongly believe it was her choice in the dog selection. Of course I cannot prove it. My point is that Ruco recently posted a photo of the brown poodle, which I think is Eunis’ dog, therefore leading me to believe that they are still dating and possibly living together. You do not necessarily have to agree with my deductions of course.

From observing dog owners and the type of dogs they own in New York City, I rarely see young, masculine men walking poodles, only some elderly men who do so. My neighbors have a bulldog (husband’s dog) and a poodle (wife’s dog). For couples who own multiple dogs, I have noted this correlation that the women seem to prefer smaller, toy dogs.
Over the years, I noted this correlation between gender and dog type preferences, which added to my gut feeling that Eunis may have picked out the brown poodle instead of Ruco.
I did not intend it to be a blind stereotype that manly guys do not like cute stuff and did not mean to offend anyone.

I am just gonna stereotype and also say I think that the majority of men prefer bigger dogs than small ones… there are of course exceptions to every stereotype 🙂 My brother in law absolutely loves his maltese and mini-poodle mix… he gets hit on by gay men at the dog park, lol 🙂 And my dad’s favorite past time is to snuggle w/ the mini-poodle mix and take a nap!

I have doubts about this. They did admit going out together but broke up 6months-1year ago.
Funny why tabloids suddenly decides to run photos taken a few months ago AND manage to write a whole article on it. If they managed to follow them before, why not publish more RECENT photos of them? That would be more interesting. Maybe because they have broken up and the media can’t find recent pictures so they decide to publish OLD photos then make up the content to reflect what they ‘think’ is happening.
According to the article, they are still living together right? Easy, just get 2 lots of reporters, one follow Ruco home and one follow Eunis home and see if they are entering the same building. Take photos. If so, then that confirms they are living together!

For all we know, he will deny this rumor as he did claim that they dated before so, not surprise to have photos of them, but he claimed that they already broken-up, so if they want a more concrete proof, the pictures will need to be more current.

How tall is Eunis? Maybe her body frame gives people the feeling Eunis is a mature woman in her late 20s or early 30s. I think our age could be misleaded by our body frame esp for those who has bigger body frame, they tends to look more mature than petite ones.

For TVB, I think they wish fans to think most of their younger, good-looking artists, such as Raymond, Ron, Bosco, Lai Lok Yi, Linda, Tavia, Myolie, Kate, etc. are single. If an artist’s popularity is due in part to their good looks, then TVB would likely ask them to maintain a low profile even if they were dating, to entertain fans’ fantasies.
At the same time, if fans are receptive to a particular celebrity pairing, such as Bosco and Myolie, then they are more lucky because not only do they have TVB’s backing, but they may not be as afraid to drop hints that they see each other on regular basis. Despite this, they will still insist they are friends.
I also suspect that how low-profile each artist chooses in handling dating relationships is also dependent on each artist’s personality. For example, Bosco is often very complimentary of Myolie and willing to answer media questions about her. This may be part of his open personality. On the other hand, Myolie is more guarded and does not reveal as many details as Bosco.
Raymond, Ron, Linda, Kate, virtually give no details as to who their dating partners are. They are very tight-lipped. Perhaps they heed TVB’s advice more.
As for Fala, I do believe she is secretly married to Sit Sai Hang. Perhaps due to this, she did not want to maintain that “single act” due to respect for the Sit family. She openly talks about Sit Sai Hang in interviews. However, since he is from a good family, good looking, etc. maybe the public is receptive about their pairing and thus TVB was not iron-handed in insisting that Fala draw lines?
I suspect when TVB perceives that the public is not receptive to an artist dating a particular person, they will enforce the measurement more tightly. Raymond Lam dating Mavis Pan, who modeled sexy lingerie, was likely a no-no in Ms. Lok’s mind.
So individual circumstances also come into play.
I think Ruco’s success is still too new at TVB, thus they are just taking precautionary measures to ensure that he maintains a low-profile dating life. His looks are a part of his popularity and he does have young fans who may wish he is single. As long as Eunis is okay with the arrangement….

I think it’s a stupid move. It’s reasonable for artists to keep their other half secret and be in an underground relationship if no one has known about it yet.

This is the price of fame. Since Ruco waited 17 years to make a big name for himself and he is currently in his highest popularity peak to-date, he must assess what is most important to him: to go with the company’s wishes in lying about his romantic life and possibly achieve a bigger career? Or acknowledge his girlfriend openly and live life with a clearer conscience, risk offending TVB and possibly continue to play minor supporting roles?
Working in a big organization such as TVB, a heavily promoted artist needs to play by the company’s rules. The more principled artists would just be hurting themselves to directly challenge the company’s wishes. To a certain extent, being overly principled may not pay in particular situations, certainly not for a rising actor such as Ruco. TVB’s dating policies are pretty standard for all their promoted artists; they do not disallow dating, but just be very low-profile whenever possible. Given the company’s interests, it’s understandable.

Since Ruco is now more popular, the rules and circumstances have changed. Earlier, I mentioned that PR hopes to leave some room for fans to fantasize about their idols’ single status. That is not the only reason why TVB prefers their artists to keep quiet about their love lives. If an artist is too high profile about love life, any angle can be used against them and drag down their public image. The media can dig into Eunis’ past, post racy photos, possible scandals to dirty her name etc. An artist’s private life can ruin one’s public reputation and although it does not change his acting performances, audiences are fickle and may discontinue their support. Hong Kong audiences seem eager to exercise moral judgement on celebrities. Rather than focus on who Ruco is dating now, TVB wants others to acknowledge his acting and good athlete image. It is understandable.
Do you see it as a greater deception because Ruco reversed his stance on his dating status, as opposed to an artist who insisted all along that he was single, such as Ron and Viann Zhang’s case? A lie is a lie, but we should also consider the circumstances.
In his mid 30s already, Ruco likely has 10 years or so left in his prime years as lead actor. For fans and supporters of Ruco, do you wish him to lie about his dating status and possibly increase his chances of a bigger acting career? Or would you prefer him to acknowledge his girlfriend publicly and live with a more clear conscience, while possibly angering TVB and risking his future career? That’s why I noted that as long as Eunis is okay with turning their relationship underground and going along with denying their relationship. In the end, Ruco’s denial will hurt Eunis the most if they are still dating and if she feels like they are living a sham. Not acknowledging their relationship publicly does not mean he loves her less. It is rather adapting to the circumstances and achieving his dreams of a bigger career. If they are still together, Ruco and Eunis had to agree on this decision together. If Ruco and Eunis mutually love each other, they are accountable to each other in private already.
While fans are naturally curious about an artist’s dating life, I also understand the circumstances that artists are under. Thus I am able to accept their desire to keep their romantic lives underground and perhaps lie when necessary. I am not offended by the deception given the circumstances. If they want to share more details about their romantic and personal lives, I would love to hear. I’m not offended by Ron’s continuous denial about dating Viann Zhang. He has his reasons. After all, I enjoy an actor’s acting foremost and just wish them personal happiness.
Given the extreme competitive environment, one moment you can be popular, the next moment your chances could be gone. Or you work for over a decade and few people even remember your name. The stakes are high and time is limited. How many decades in our lives do we have? In the end, Ruco will need to do what is best for himself, with love and understanding from Eunis of course.
Btw, I would love to see Ruco as a pilot in the soon-to-be-filmed “Triumph in the Skies 2!” He would look dreamy as a pilot! Hopefully it’s not too late to add him to the cast! 🙂
I’ve wished for that the moment I heard about the sequel! Ruco would look so hot in a pilot uniform! Since Triumph was delayed I hope this means Ruco can be added but not likely since they probably have the script ready. Also Triumph will also be used to promote new actors so screen time might not be alot for everyone.

Good point. It’s not only Ron’s fans, but also Bosco and Kenneth’s as well. Nevertheless, I think it would be difficult to allocate equal screen time to the 3 main characters and have equally compelling story arcs.
So if Ruco were to join the crowded “Triumph in the Skies” cast, he may be relegated to supporting role?
Filming for “Triumph in the Skies 2” was reported to be delayed until end of year, so the script is likely still in the works. It would not be difficult to add in a custom-tailored role for Ruco if TVB wished to do so. Ruco would make one compelling pilot, a good successor to Joe Ma’s role in the original. 🙂
If Ruco is added exclusively into TITS2 I think someone or all of the three S4 will have less screentime or reduced to guest star but Ruco will be a mature and handsome as a pilot. Just hope that Ron fans won’t strike again at Ruco.

I think this is a good idea. They can add Ruco to be one of the lead actors. I don’t think it is too late since the filming or scheduling was delayed (Something like that).
From what I read, Eunis is a great woman who doesn’t even mind earning money to support her boyfriend/husband. So if Ruco chooses to hide his relationship with Eunis, I bet Ruco has Eunis’ support. She must be happy that the audiences are recognizing his acting skills.

those photos are obviously taken during fall/winter season. It’s so unbearably hot in HK right now, obviously they wouldn’t be wearing long sleeves and layers. From reading baidu and chatting with other fans on fb. I think most of his fans are fine with him dating. I’ll believe they’re still together if reporters can photo/film something more recent. At least they’ve been together for 3 years and Eunis looks quite mature =)
I think fans these days (not the teenie boppers ones) don’t mind celebs dating but it’s who they date. If the girl is decent looking, nice person in general, then they would be accepting…..
