Sammi Cheng: “Material Items Are of Little Significance to Elderly Parents”

On September 30, Sammi Cheng (鄭秀文) revealed on social media that her mom developed shingles on her waist. The painful rash was luckily treated within 72 hours, but it will take time before the affected area fully heals. Although Sammi’s mother feels better now, the superstar couldn’t help but feel heartache. Sammi ended up accompanying her mom at home for several days and revisited old memories together while holding hands and chatting.

“My mom’s hands are especially small, but she singlehandedly raised five kids,” the celebrity shared. “I can’t help but kiss her and kiss her, as she looks like a cute child with wrinkles.”

During their deep talks, Mama Cheng suddenly remembered Sammi contracted German measles as a child, and she had to take care of Sammi in the hospital with Papa Cheng.

Now, it’s Sammi’s turn to look after her mom. The singer said mothers need the strength of their child, so accompanying them is very important. “Companionship is a type of painkiller; love is also an intangible but powerful drug,” Sammi expressed. “I hope that my love will make my mother feel less pain and even forget her discomfort.”

She continued, “Parents are old now, they need us more than ever mentally and physically. Material items are of little significance to elderly parents. Both you and I need to love and cherish them while they’re still here.”

However, Sammi has always been filial. She once revealed that her father could not walk well after getting a stroke. Even though she hired helpers to take care of him, she was still not at ease, so she moved them closer to her. Sammi arranged her parents to stay at the Ridge Court in Repulse Bay, and she even personally selected the furniture. For the safety of her dad, she added safety rails to the hallways of their home, and the bathroom even follows the design of a nursing home.
