“See Me Fly Again” Winners to Star in Mini Series
One week after TVB’s talent competition for airline industry staff was held, the station announced that the winners will be cast in a new mini series. Though they previously earned lofty salaries in the airline industry, the four winners of See Me Fly Again <衝上雲霄大選> expressed interest in acting and joining the entertainment industry.
Though quickly put together, the talent show generated hot buzz in Hong Kong.
At the official award ceremony this week, winner Derek Mak (麥大力), first runner-up Keith Shing (盛勁為), second runner-up Godwin Luk (陸煥恆), and talent winner Ardis Yeung (楊銘熙) attended to collect their prizes. Derek was awarded the top prize of $100,000 Hong Kong dollars in cash, while the other winners received cash prizes in smaller denominations.
Though Derek plans to use his prize money to treat his family and friends to dinner, they are currently in England. Due to the pandemic, it probably will be some time before they can see each other again. He disclosed that his monthly salary used to be HK$200,000, but he is very frugal so he is not experiencing any financial difficulty yet despite the halt in his income. “My biggest monthly expense is food and drinks. I usually spend only HK$3,000.”
As TVB revealed plans to cast the four winners of See Me Fly Again in a mini series revolving around the airline industry, Derek hopes to be able to work with Katy Kung (龔嘉欣) as he had the opportunity to practice with her during the competition. Excited at the chance to act, he feels very lucky and does not feel pressured. “Even though I am a little shy, I think this will go away as I have more exposure to the public. At this point, I hope to improve my Cantonese. I have already started using less English, and my friends started teaching me Cantonese.” Reporters joked that he can date a Hong Kong woman to improve his Cantonese, and he said that is a possibility.
When Keith expressed that he will wait until the pandemic is over before treating others to dinner due to the gathering restrictions, reporters immediately asked if he would be treating rumored girlfriend Louisa Mak (麥明詩) too, and he replied that he definitely would. As he has only been laid off two months ago, he has not experienced any financial difficulties yet.
Godwin and Ardis have not officially signed with TVB yet, but are very interested in acting. Ardis disclosed that he was Ashley Chu’s (朱智賢) old colleague, and they have known each other for 10 years. When asked if he had heard of Ashley’s cheating scandal, Ardis awkwardly acknowledged that he had and changed the topic. Meanwhile, Godwin hopes to work with Crystal Fung (馮盈盈) as he had gotten to know her through the competition and feels that she has a cheerful personality with a lot of positivity.

@jimmyszeto pilots for commercial airlines make a lot. It also depends on which airline they work for, of course. But for the most part, if they work for a big airline, have seniority, and also a Captain, then those boys make some big bucks.
This is truly the most bizarre thing in the world lol. But the winner Derek is really good looking you can’t deny that.

Unless they will quickly shoot to stardom they will finally be shot back down to reality when they notice TVB salary is no where near HKD $200000 and being overworked … in a year they’ll disappear and go back to their pilot jobs.
The average HK pilot makes 91K/month, topping out at 120K/month
(HKD) with the most seniority and experience. Bunch of lying scumbags.

If you asked me for a monthly wage figure for a pilot, I would have guessed £8000 which is HKD80000. Not far off at all from your search…
@anon glassdoor is not necessarily accurate. Making what he claims to make is entirely plausible. As a senior Captain with per diem, overtime, etc, you would be surprised the ridiculous amount of money they make per trip. I’m not saying he isn’t lying, but there really is no need to lie about this.

There are strict regulations on how many hours a commercial airline pilot can fly per week/month, so working overtime is rare.
Moreover, based on Derek’s age, I highly doubt he is a Captain.
@anon @jimmyszeto In the audition or first part of the show, it was already announced that he is Captain and not just an officer. Moreover, I’m actually in the airline industry so I know personally through my profession that his salary is reasonable. There are lots of rules and regulations yes, but they are also very well compensated within legalities.
@gnomageddon Does that apply to all other air pilots in other countries, curious as to how much US ones make. Also funny how the pilots are wanting to get to know the TVB actresses right away 😛
@exodus in the US, if you work for a major airline, the income is much higher than that of a regional airline. Regional pilots, even Captains top out at starting rate of a first officer for a major carrier. So there is definitely a big income disparity.
