Selena Jen: “Life Has Made Me Stronger”
Two years after her shocking divorce from ex-husband Richard Zhang (張承中), Selina Jen (任家萱) is keeping herself busy with work and living a varied life.
A member of Taiwanese girl group, S.H.E, Selina entered showbiz in 2000 after impressing judges with her sweet appearance and singing skills in a talent contest. Together with Ella Chan (陳嘉樺) and Hebe Tian (田馥甄), the trio became one of the most popular bands in Taiwan and much of Asia.
However, things took an unexpected turn when Selina suffered third-degree burns in over 54 percent of her body during a filming accident on the set of Hunan television drama I Have a Date with Spring <我和春天有個約會> in 2010. As a result of the traumatic episode, she had to undergo skin graft operations and took over a year for recovery.
Selena was also forced to postpone her marriage to Richard, who took care of her during hospitalization and promised to proceed with the wedding after she got better.
While the couple eventually tied the knot in 2011, a fairy tale ending was not to be. In 2016, Selina and Richard got divorced. Selena revealed that she had been centered on her career after marriage, leading to the couple’s love slowly fading into friendship and kinship. Their marital life lacked bliss and she had not played the role of a good wife.
While there were rumors that the real reason for their divorce was due to fertility problems caused by the medication Selina took, as well as Richard’s alleged infidelity, both the singer herself and her record label HIM International Music have denied these sayings.
The 36-year-old said that the challenging experiences she went through has widened her perspective in life. Where love used to matter greatly, she has now learned to treasure her health and friendships too. She also has taken part in charity marathons organized by Taipei Standard Chartered Marathon in support of the visually impaired.

@m0m0 totally agree, well said. If the purpose of the article was to highlight how strong Selena had become,then the sad, vulnerable face defeats the purpose of the article.
@m0m0 This picture is actually a capture from S.H.E’s music video of their latest single 《十七》. It’s a very meaningful MV that showcases the 3 girls’ journey since their debut. They reenacted the scene of Selina getting burned during the filming accident, hence her “sad” expression.
The picture above it looks like the movie Carrie White? I always thought she’s the prettiest one out of the three. Sad her marriage don’t last long.
