Sharon Chan to Get Married this Fall?

Sharon Chan (陳敏之) plans to walk down the aisle soon with her boyfriend of six years, William Lui (雷偉信). Next Magazine reported that the wedding will take place at the end of the year.

After suffering from a string of injuries and illnesses in the past few years, the workaholic Sharon decided that is finally time to settle down and take a break from work. She made a surprising move in turning down Wong Wai Sing’s (黃偉聲) Qing Dynasty drama, Food for the Slaves <食為奴> earlier this year, and sent in a vacation request to TVB. Sharon will not be accepting offers to film dramas or other heavy projects for the next few months.

Sharon’s health has been on the line since filming Can’t Buy Me Love <公主嫁到> in 2010. Due to the pressure of having to wear a headset for a long period of time, Sharon injured her neck. To not impede the filming schedule, Sharon endured the pain and continued to shoot the drama while wearing a neck cast during off-shoots. A few months later, Sharon injured her collarbone while filming for Ghetto Justice <怒火街頭 II>. Soon afterwards, Sharon was diagnosed with nephritis (kidney inflammation). The side effects of her medication also caused her entire body to swell up and Sharon had to stay indoors for a few months.

Making up for lost time and money, Sharon proceeded to film three projects in a row in late 2011, including Queens of Diamonds and Hearts <東西宮略> and Friendly Fire <法網狙擊>. However, the long filming hours took another toll on Sharon’s health.

Although she was worked to near exhaustion, Sharon insisted to host the 2013 Miss Chinese International pageant last month. Sharon’s weak performance was critically panned. At that moment, Sharon realized that she cannot allow her work to affect her health and decided to submit another vacation request to TVB. Aside from accepting simple hosting and endorsement jobs, Sharon has rejected all her drama filming offers.

An insider said, “Sharon was afraid that her illness would come back. Her boyfriend has good monetary standing and is always telling her to slow down her work output. She believed that her career should come first and rejected several of William’s marriage proposals before. To see William still being so supportive of her makes her realize that she should really slow down. She now thinks that marrying a good husband is more important than a career, so she finally promised to marry him. For now, they plan to hold the wedding at the end of the year. They haven’t decided if the wedding will be a big celebration or not. Right now, her health comes first. They also really want to have a baby.”

Sharon leads a current lifestyle of a wealthy wife. She occasionally goes out with some friends for high tea and will spend some time doing facials at beauty clinics. Sharon also has a driver to take her around the city.

Sharon’s Response

After the news reported that Sharon is ready to get married this year, she responded on her Weibo, “I didn’t stop my work, fall sick, plan to get married, and have kids as indicated in the report! I posted this message because I don’t want people who care about me to worry! I am very healthy and happy! I still love my work! I’m preparing for my new TVB drama, which will start filming in April.”

    1. Miriamfanz,
I think Sharon has a higher possibility. Sharon’s been with her boyfriend for many years and they even bought a condo home together.

IMO Sharon may already be secretly married. It’s a matter of when the wedding banquet is held, similar situation as Fala Chen.

    2. Maybe Mandy who just announced she is currently dating.

      1. Someone not in the entertainment industry. She said it today at some event.

  2. 2012 is the year of noisy breakup and 2013 is the year of new love and marriage? It means 2013 is a better year than 2012.

  3. sharon’s secretly married, huh? no wonder she is glowing..

  4. It will be disappointing to lose Sharon from dramas, but I wish her nothing but happiness.

  5. This story is inaccurate since Sharon will be filming the Dayo Wong series next month. She also didn’t film a bunch of series back to back since Queen of Diamonds was filmed in late 2011 but Friendly Fire was late 2012 and she only had some smaller cameo roles in between. She also took time off to take care of herself and went on vacation. Sharon also denied most of this on her weibo because she said that she is healthy.

Also, I thought she did a really good job hosting Miss Chinese International!

  6. I wonder how true this is?? First we have news of Nancy getting married and now Sharon too. Time will tell…
