Sheren Tang Became Depressed After Breakup

After Sheren Tang (鄧萃雯) bashed TVB’s work ethics due to her poor filming experience during Beauty At War <金枝慾孽貳>, she subsequently took a break to treat her mood disorder. Although she slowly recovered from the illness, Sheren relapsed into depression depression recently due a rough breakup with her boyfriend, a Christian man 10 years her junior.

The 48-year-old actress previously maintained a fit physique that was comparable to younger actresses. However, in the last six months, Sheren gained 30 pounds. Spotted shopping earlier, Sheren had thinning hair and a receding hairline when she took off her baseball cap.

Sheren Denies Having Depression

Sheren experienced very little success in her prior relationships. Her latest relationship was with a Christian man that lasted for six months. Hurt and unable to handle the breakup, Sheren was spotted shopping for self-help books on depression.

Sensitive about her mental health condition, Sheren vehemently denied she suffered from depression and retracted her previous statement about having mood disorders, “I didn’t say I had depression! You can’t believe the reports!”

After calming down, Sheren then added, “Actually, one out of four people have this type of illness. I tell people my shocking stories because people in Hong Kong have too many problems, but they are too scared to face them.” Sheren added that she is willing to share her problems publicly because she wants to help others with similar issues.

Asked if she was staying home to take care of her illness, Sheren replied, “I have to love myself more because I’m faced with immense pressure. I’ve been working for 20 years and [the stress] has accumulated – life is not all about working hard. Right now, I’m resting at home. Everyone in Hong Kong uses their health in exchange for work and money.”

  1. Sorry to hear about this. Hope she’ll overcome it soon. She’s a great actress.

  2. Sorry to hear about Sheren’s illness and emotional problems. Hope she will recover and overcome them.

She is great in her acting, but she does not seem to have much luck in her love life.

Sheren, hope Year 2015 will be a great year for you in your career as well as in your love life.

  3. If she truly does have depression, and have reporters chase her down for confirmation, this is really sad. I’m sure anyone with depression or any kind of mental disorder would do better without the medias attention and public exposure of their medical conditions. Trying to milk news out of people’s misfortune, especially when they could be life threatening is so unnecessary..

    1. >>>Trying to milk news out of people’s misfortune, especially when they could be life threatening is so unnecessary.

Totally Agree. That’s what I believe too. They mercilessly publicized Lydia Sum’s pictures in hospital for that ‘one of a kind’ sensational news scoop … by preying on the vulnerable. That was disgustingly low.
Whatever happened to ethical respect for someone’s dignity – esp since Lydia was such a well-loved figure in HK too.

Reporters should try walking in people’s shoes, and think how they would feel if they were the ones being hunted down, stalked and hounded when in a bad patch in life or ill, or when their loved ones are ill.

Unless they’re raising awareness and support to help = hounding anyone during divorce and bad moments, or when they’re trying to cope (eg Shirley Yeung) is so unnecc too.

Same binch hypocrites will say “poor thing”, “how could this happen”, “what happened, we didn’t know she was going through this shit” etc etc etc bs when a person is driven to suicide.

      1. So true, Clementine. This reminds me of what poor Leslie Cheung had to go through. He was mercilessly hounded by the media that kept fabricating nasty stories about him and invaded his privacy, the same hypocritical media that posted tributes about Leslie after he died.

I wish Sheren a much better 2015. She has always professed such strong Christian faith. May her faith in God help get her through the low patches in life.

  4. Agree with Clementine. The media should giver her some personal space instead of dogging her every move and reporting on her shortcomings.
If there is a need to update her fans, a short article informing about her taking a rest is sufficient.

  5. I like Sheren and I hope it’s not depression she’s going through. Even if it’s so I’m glad she looks as if she’s in control of her situation and that itself will bode her well.

  6. Please leave her alone. Let her have some deserved personal space. Breakup is already a very upset event.

Sheren, it is his loss to breakup with you. Every relationship is a lesson that will make you wiser. Learn from it and look forward to the new path. You have a lot of supporters that love to see you back to healthy cheerful self.

  7. She’s strong headed can swim thru her problems, the reports are overstated

  8. Who wouldn’t? Everyone in the stage of depression when they broke up with their love..

  9. Very dramatic description. Gained 30 pounds thinnjbg hair. I see none of those. She is 48 and she is not acting so she is allowed to let herself go a little. She always have high forehead. I see ko thinning hair. Give her a break.

P/s nice car. What brand is it?

  10. Looks like Jesus didn’t do much good to you eh Sheren? Needed to resort to self help books? So where is your Jesus when you need him Sheren?

  11. why is it that this article keeps mentioning Sheren’s ex is a “Christian Man”.. issit? Do we really know he is Christian or Buddhist or Atheist? And how does that matter?
