Sheren Tang on Never Giving Up
Sheren Tang (鄧萃雯) stepped in the ATV studios for the first time to film program Next Station Lok Fu <下一站諾富>. After suffering years of low viewership, Hong Kong’s oldest free-to-air station failed to renew its broadcast license from the government. The station will end its broadcasting operations on April 1, 2016.
While taking a walk around the ATV studios, Sheren expressed her happiness in coming across former colleagues. Realizing that Next Station Lok Fu is the first and may be the last ATV program she will film, she said, “This makes it more meaningful.”
On ATV shutting its doors after 57 years in the business, she said, “I feel that everything has a historical mission, and [ATV] has completed its mission. My feelings are contradictory; on the one hand I feel that there is no use to continue because it would be wasting everyone’s public airwaves, but ATV grew up with us and also sacrificed a lot. You want ATV to stay, but you also know it can’t. Considering this situation, might as well give everyone a new opportunity and come up with some new ideas to stimulate the market.”
Sheren Shares Life Perspective
On the show, Sheren shared about ways to overcome one’s valleys and peaks in life. Before she started her career, she was hopeful and had many fantasies, but she later realized that real life was actually completely different from what she expected.
“When I first entered the industry I was very fortunate and debuted with a lead role. It is very possible that young people can find a good job once they enter the real world, but this is actually very dangerous. It can easily make you too proud. The generation of today didn’t suffer as much, but once they hit a setback, even if it’s a minor one, it can affect them greatly. In my generation, we had to work our way up. If not, we would all starve to death and not have a roof over our heads. Even if we were unhappy, we had to swallow it. We worked a great deal to continue to improve ourselves. We could not even afford to give up.”
Sharon urged the younger generation to always strive for their best and never give up even if things look bleak. “Always be prepared to expect the unexpected.”
