Shu Qi Shares Her Thoughts on Marriage
After a long on-again, off-again relationship, Shu Qi (舒淇) and Stephen Fung (馮德倫) finally married in 2016. The couple had known each other for 20 years, first as friends before progressing to lovers. Shu Qi has always kept low profile about her relationship and rarely talks about Stephen even after their marriage. However, she would sporadically share photos of their sweet moments together on social media. In a recent interview, Shu Qi finally opened up on her thoughts on marriage and her relationship with her mother-in-law.
Though Shu Qi has a good marriage with Stephen, she does not believe that marriage is a milestone that everyone must attain. She declares that there is nothing wrong with being single. It is more important to meet the right person. If she did not met the right person, she would rather remain single. “If I could not find the right person whom I felt is willing to support and compromise in our future life together, then honestly I feel like there is nothing wrong with being single,” the 44-year-old actress said.
For a marriage to work, getting along with in-laws is also very important as it involves two families to come together. Shu Qi said, “Not only must your husband understand you, but your mother-in-law must as well.” She acknowledges that she has a great relationship with her in-laws, which makes her marriage a lot happier but understands that this is not a given.
Because of the pandemic, Shu Qi and Stephen have slowed down their work schedules and have been temporarily residing in Taiwan this year and would often meet up with friends such as Kelly Lin (林熙蕾) and Ruby Lin (林心如) for gatherings.
