Simon Yam Discharged from Hospital After Knife Attack

On July 20, Hong Kong star Simon Yam (任達華) was stabbed in the abdomen by a schizophrenic attacker in Zhongshan during a promotional event, and was rushed to a local hospital. In monitoring Simon’s condition, Simon was subsequently transferred to a Hong Kong hospital and was placed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Simon was finally discharged from the hospital today and he shared an update on his heath with the media.

Grateful for the Health Professionals

At around 1 p.m., Simon and his manager left the hospital as nearly 100 reporters waited. Dressed in comfortable attire, Simon was visually in good spirits even though his right hand was bandaged up.

Since Simon is fluent in both Mandarin and Cantonese, Simon spoke in the two dialects to thank the health professionals in China and Hong Kong for providing him with medical care. “Thank you for friends who cared about me in the last few days. Although I was injured in this accident, I am grateful for the staff at Zhongshan. I am also grateful for the medical staff in Hong Kong. Thank you to Emperor Entertainment Group for the thoughtful arrangement.”

Hopes to Film Again

Addressing the care provided by the hospital, Simon shared, “After the accident, the Zhongshan medical staff were helpful. They helped me do a lot of tests. Afterward, I am thankful for returning and the Hong Kong staff immediately performed tests on me again. Thank you everyone for your concern. Right now, my hand needs some time to recover. I hope for a quick recovery, so I can film again. I really like to film.”

When a reporter approached Simon and asked if he was still in pain, Simon replied, “With everyone’s support, I can endure.” After speaking with the media, Simon received flowers from the hospital and was escorted to his car.
