Sire Ma Twice Possessed Suicidal Thoughts
Mood disorders are common for those within the entertainment industry. Last year while filming for TVB drama, Bullet Brain <神探高倫布>, Sire Ma (馬賽) was unable to detach herself from her role. At the same time, there were circulating rumors that she was the third party who tried to steal Adrian Chau (周志文) in a relationship. Adding to the despair, Sire’s beloved grandfather passed away. With everything bombarding her at once, there were already two instances when Sire had wanted to commit suicide. Fortunately, she was stopped in time.
Sire’s parents, who live in Shenzhen, frequently visit their daughter in Hong Kong to make sure she is free of suicidal thoughts. Reportedly, her mother suggested that Sire visit the doctor, but she refused instantly.
When Sire was filming Silver Spoon, Sterling Shackles <名媛望族> in April 2012, she was allegedly involved in a relationship with Adrian, who portrayed her husband. However, Adrian already has a girlfriend, model Coco Yuen (袁聖殷). After the rumors surfaced, Coco angrily spoke of Sire through Weibo and the media.
Growing up in mainland China, Sire does not have many close friends in Hong Kong. As time passed, she slowly developed a mood disorder. An insider source revealed, “Sire has a personality that is slow to warm up. There aren’t a lot of people she can talk to within the industry. When she faces problems, she hides them within herself. When Adrian was together with Sire, he told her that he was single. So when his girlfriend revealed herself, Sire was already very hurt. Plus, she was being called the third party.”
In Bullet Brain, Sire portrays a character whose love is deceived by Wayne Lai’s (黎耀祥) character. There is crying in almost every episode, and after long tedious hours of filming, Sire’s mood fell into an uncontrollable state. Suicidal thoughts eventually emerged.
There was a scene in which Sire had to cry near the sea. However, she cried continuously even after the camera stopped rolling. Sire walked nearer to the water while murmuring to herself. At the time, a crew member realized her oddness and pulled her away. One week later, Sire shot a scene that required her to cry while driving. Without following the director’s words, she banged her head against the steering wheel many times.
A crew member recalled, “The director already said it was not needed, but she already banged her head down with a boom. She repeated the banging five to six more times. When official filming started, there was already a huge bruise on her head. The scene had to be re-shot another day. The scariest part was when she suddenly whispered to me, ‘I don’t belong in this world….There is no point in staying here!’”
Last Sunday, reporters confronted Sire about her issue. When asked why she banged her head against the steering wheel without following the script, Sire said that she has a lot of screen time in the drama and wanted it to be realistic. “At the time, there was a moment when I felt like the world didn’t need me after I had been deceived, and that there is no point in living!”
When questioned about her mother’s suggestion for her to visit the doctor, Sire replied, “Actually, many people have mood disorders. It’s not a big deal! I went on a vacation to the United States earlier, and my mood is better now!”

if this is true, then adrian chau is a bastard
^seriously…
so does that mean sire did like him? or had good feelings towards him?
Sire Ma is very beautiful and acts well in this series. She was good actress in SSSS too; her acting was so touching as the daughter of Damian’s character.
I don’t think she’s in the right industry!
Agree, especially if she lives in Hong Kong by herself.
I partly agree with you- I guess being in such an industry, they should have quite an emotionally and mentally strong/tough personality in order to protect themselves and not get so affected or influenced by the outside gossip or get too sucked into their roles that they can’t separate themselves from the script to reality. Also, they must be able to handle and manage pressure and criticism quite reasonable and well…dare I say especially being in HK, where society is highly critical and competitive.
But that being said, it is common that artists’ experience mood disorders, most commonly depression (even comedians/those who are always seen as the happy-go-lucky type like Sammy Leung, have experienced depression). so I don’t think it’s necessarily the ‘wrong industry’ for her considering the fact that a lot successful and talented artists’ are in the same boat and have experienced or do still experience mood disorders. It’s a matter of how they manage to find their way out and maintain their ‘sanity’ in their rollercoaster career.
But developing suicidal thoughts isn’t a good sign at all…I hope she is actually okay and fine like she claimed. Don’t wish to see another death of a young talent on the news any time soon or later…I really like Sire- she can act imo, although she has room for improvement, she displays a lot of potential through her performances.
“Sire had wanted to suicide”
wanted to commit suicide
Anyway really? Seems like every TVB artistes seem to have depression and suicidal tendencies. Perhaps it is TVB’s fault?
“Seems like every TVB artist (nouns modified by “every” are singular and should be written in that manner…plurality is implied ) seems to have depression…”
Grammar aside, I do agree with you 🙂
I hope this news is fabricated by the HK press. However if this is true, I think Sire should listen to her mother or at least talk to someone who she can trust or among those lines. She needs advice if this is true!
I hope she is okay though!
does anyone know who would be considered sire’s close friends within the industry?
The only person she seemed really close to is Damien Lau, but he’s not a tvb contract artiste.. Damien has a friendly attitude so he’s like friends with everyone in the industry
She’s also friends with Jess Shum, Mandy Wong.
amateurs… can’t tell work from reality…
I think being an actor/actress is pretty dangerous to some extent if they can’t get themselves out of their role. They need a lot of inner strength, or else they can be steered off the track easily! I hope Sire is okay! What the crew member revealed seems a tad bit creepy. According to a weibo post she made, the tabloids are fabricated. But again, people with mood disorders do not admit they have mood disorders, so who knows if she’s truly alright…
I hope she seeks professional help soon.
It certainly seems like a serious cry for help with those symptoms….
It appears that the inability to communicate their true thoughts to close friends/family often accumulates so much burden within that unless they find a way to release it, more often than not, it takes form in a very negative way.
All the best for Sire.
Sounds like she needs to speak to a shrink soon to get treated, or we may have another tragedy. Too many korean artistes have committed suicide, for it to be a coincidence. There must be a certain personality type that cannot cope with the pressures of the entertainment industry.
I notice a lot of these over promoted actresses are mental midgets. They may be promoted like crazy but don’t has the mental toughness to deal with the pressures.
Quiet people tend to have mental disorders right? Plus she has no family here which only makes matters worse.
