Sneak Preview of CTI’s Daring Dramas
While Ricky Wong’s (王維基) City Telecom (CTI) is still fighting an uphill battle for a broadcast license, his staff has been working tirelessly to produce and film various series with daring and extreme material which is sure to outdo TVB’s usual family-friendly themes. From homosexuality, plastic surgery to extreme blood and gore, CTI is risking it all by exploring controversial topics.
In another attempt to rally the government in issuing their license, Ricky shared a glimpse of upcoming series to which audiences can expect to either love or hate, but will most definitely be surprised and shocked.
Jeannie Cheng (鄭靜雯) from CTI’s Public Relations department explained that they have filmed two versions of certain dramas containing explicit subject material. She said, “We want to be sensitive of the fact that families watch these series so the version shown on TV will be different from the version available online.” She also added, “We’re very confident that we will be able to obtain the broadcasting license and continue to produce more series in the coming year.”
The following is a list of some CTI dramas and a synopsis of their disturbing/controversial scenes:
Fantasy Love Song 201314 <童話戀曲201314>
Genre: Musical
Cast: William So (蘇永康) and Bernice Liu (廖碧兒)
Scene: Bernice plays a patient with a mental disorder and licks an unconscious William.
Marvel Century <驚異世紀>
Genre: Horror
Cast: Dominic Lam (林嘉華), Leila Tong (唐寧), and Noel Leung (梁小冰 )
Scenes:
– A blanket is flipped open to reveal just a human head.
– A female character is seen eating raw human intestines.
– A human head is inside a washing machine.
Second Life <第二人生>
Genre: Time Travel, Friendship
Cast: Wilfred Lau (劉浩龍) and Bondy Chiu (趙學而 )
Scene: Wilfred and another male character kissing passionately
Three Sides of Shape Doctors <三面形醫>
Genre: Medical /Plastic Surgery
Cast: Frankie Lam (林文龍) and John Chiang (姜大偉 )
Scene: Two female characters kiss passionately

cinematography and set design looks amazing. hopefully the storylines are just as good. i hope they succeed and force TVB to step up their writing and production.

Best to have competitors in E! to keep quality. Domination is not good. I support CTI and I will watch it. They do not have new comers and young artists as TVB but ex tvb artists act better than young ones.
Yes, great to have competition to keep up the quality. Also in this day and age why would anyone have to settle for watching one thing over another with online downloads, streaming, DVR live recording, rebroadcasts, DVDs, etc. This is competition for ad revenue.
The TVB sales presentation seems so corny and low budget compared to the CTI one. For everyone that commented that the plots are seem predictable or cliche – how can you gather anything from the clips? Also if you think those are cliche what do you think of TVB’s clips?
How can overseas audience watch CTI’s HKTV?
i actually think CTI is better since they address the controversial topics and yes, TVB’s family approiate plots are getting way too boring.

I am totally rooting for CTI. Agree with one of the previous comments regarding the great group of experienced actors and actresses in these dramas. No newbies and boring ‘goddesses’! Oh and Noel Leung is still such a babe! I am so excited for that drama!

I just would like to highlight that channel 8 is airing tvb drama, starhub has tvbj channel and now….mio tv is airing tvb dramas as well.
TVB must be earning so much profits but not for much longer, I predict maybe miotv will work with CTI.

I love Noel Leung! She looks great for being as old as she was and a mother of two. Too bad I don’t watch horror! These dramas looked very interesting, it seems like CTI is trying to target audiences from old to young adults or even teenagers whose usually facinated with vampires and horror shows. What I like about their presentation was they have a variety of dramas with an entire different topic, some are a little sensitive, over the top perhaps too much and disturbing maybe and controversal, some are romantic and some even reminded me of the American TV series such as niptuck, vampire diaries and grimm. It def’ look entertianing to watch…hope the storylines are good too. TVB dramas are more family friendly with the same actors and similar/predictable storyline, it just gets too boring and old. CTI could become TVB’s most major competitor once CTI got their license but we all know is a good thing for TVB to improve.
These look like high quality productions, but sadly, also have the feel of being copies of American TV.
Regardless of whether it’s HK/Korean/Taiwan/US/British/China/Thai dramas, they all have their own style and audience.
If you think Hong Kong dramas are bad for having sets that are reused, so are those long-winded taiwanese series that are 500+ episodes long, yet they are so popular. But they are uniquely taiwanese.
