Song Hye Kyo and Lee Sung Min Win the Best Actress and Best Actor at the Baeksang Arts Awards
On April 28th, the 59th Baeksang Awards ceremony was held to celebrate South Korea’s achievement in films, television and theatre. Song Hye Kyo and Lee Sung Min were the night’s biggest winners and took home the Best Actress Award and Best Actor Award.
This was the first time that Song Hye Go won the Best Actress Award for the first time in her 27 years of acting. Winning the award for her role in The Glory, Song Hye Kyo playfully made a reference to her co-star’s character Park Yeon Jin in her winning speech and said, “I received an award, Yeon Jin. I am very happy right now. Thank you to the loving fans who have silently supported me, as well as my team of hairstylists, stylists and makeup artists.”
Song Hye Go also gave a shout out to The Glory screenwriter Kim Eun-Sook who previously helmed another one of Song Hye Kyo’s iconic dramas, Descendants of the Sun. Song Hye Kyo thanked the screenwriter and said, “Both works were very loved . Thank you very much for giving me the role of Moon Dong Eun. While filming, I felt pain and I was tired, but I was also very happy. My mother had been worried for a long time but now, she must be very happy.”
Meanwhile, Lee Sung Min won the Best Actor Award for his role in Reborn Rich and he also gave a shout out to his co-stars Kim Shin Rok and Kim Do Hyun, “My daughter and son-in-law were nominated [Best Supporting Actor/Actress] but they didn’t make the cut. I thought about what I would do if I didn’t win. Thank you for letting me save face.”
Lee Sung Min also didn’t shy away from giving a shout out to his co-star and Song Hye Kyo’s ex-husband, Song Joong Ki. Lee Sung Min said, “It was a simple shoot and all the staff and actors worked hard. Song Joong Ki should be here tonight but the award was taken away by me.” The actor also thanked his family for their support.

I didn’t watch The Glory or Reborn Rich or Vincenzo or the autistic lawyer drama – which ones do folks here reco watching?
I watched the first season of The Glory based on people saying how good it is. But it was super boring to me. Very dragged out and slow paced. I couldn’t even bring myself to continue to watch season 2. I’m tempted to just to see if the series ever got better but I don’t want to waste my time lol. I’m surprised she won BA for this series as she was very one dimensional and emotionless throughout the drama. Just my take. Hopefully others that have watched the entire thing can tell me whether it gets better in season 2 because I really don’t want to keep wasting my time on this.
Lol @Gnomageddon thank you! I don’t want to watch these hyped up dramas unless I know they’re good (from veteran viewers), not from hype mills
