Song Joong Ki Attends Cannes Film Festival

Song Joong Ki flew to France to attend the world premiere of his new film Hopeless at the Cannes Film Festival. The crime thriller also stars Hong Xa Bin and Bibi. Although Song Joong Ki’s wife Katie Louise Sanders initially planned to attend the premiere, the couple ultimately decided that the dark subject was unsuitable for Kate who is in her last trimester of pregnancy.

During an interview with the press, the soon-to-be father said, “I came to Cannes with my wife. Although there is only one month left before her due date, the culture here encourages pregnancy women to stay active. Although I am physically here at the premiere, my mind and focus is completely on her.”

While it is Song Joong Ki’s first time at Cannes, Katie, who used to be an actress herself, has attended the film festival several times in the past. He shared that it was Katie who would read maps and pointed towards the right direction while touring the city. He added, “She told me a lot about the culture of the industry here, such as interviews and party etiquette. She’s given me a lot of good advice.”

Shedding his clean cut image in Hopeless, Song Joong Ki  portrays a jagged and hard-edged middle-ranked mafia leader. His portrayal was well-received and there were countless fans excitedly awaiting his arrival on the red carpet at the film’s premiere. The film received a standing ovation that lasted several minutes. Afterward, Song Joong Ki stepped on the stage to personally thank fans, “After watching the movie, I feel even more emotional than when I read the script. I really think we made this movie very well.”
