Sonija Kwok Hasn’t Watched a Hong Kong Drama in 10 Years
After filming Under the Veil <無雙譜> in 2015, Sonija Kwok (郭羨妮) officially ended her 16-year working relationship with TVB. Other than periodically attending promotional events in Mainland China and taking part in small filming projects, Sonija dedicates most of her time raising her five-year-old daughter, Kylie. Sonija’s husband Zhu Shaojie (朱少杰) is a Mainland choreographer and works in China most of the year.
The 43-year-old actress recently made a rare appearance while attending Cable TV’s event. Though a former Hong Kong actress, Sonija has not seen a Hong Kong drama in nearly ten years, sharing that she instead enjoys American television shows such as The Walking Dead, Friends, and Sex and the City. “I really have not watched Hong Kong dramas in a long time. It’s probably been nearly 10 years since I last watched one. I personally prefer American shows, so I don’t know what dramas are being aired in Hong Kong right now.”
Although Sonija has reduced her workload, she stays busy while caring for her daughter. She revealed that she has been busy preparing for her Kylie’s entrance into elementary school. Sonija was the Miss Hong Kong 2000 pageant winner and a relatively successful television actress. However, Sonija shared that her daughter does not know she is an actress. “She doesn’t know that I was a Miss Hong Kong pageant. She only knows that I showed up on television a few times wearing glamorous clothes with pretty makeup on, and took really nice pictures.”
Has Kylie watched any of the dramas starring her mother? “Not officially, but she has seen the trailers. Because the trailer was for a police drama and I had a gun, she keeps thinking I know how to use one. She said she wants to be a policewoman when she grows up!”

Happy for Sonija. She chose to find love and stay modest rather than chasing for rich and powerful like we see from majority of the other HK celebs.

In an interview I watched recently that Sonija never really cared much about money and brands. Also she loves staying indoors rather than socialising. I think she is one of the rare few to sacrifice her peak years to dedicate time with her family rather then earn as much as possible..
