“Story of Yanxi Palace” Star Qin Lan Had Suffered from Horrendous Skin Problems
Known for her beauty and youthful skin, Story of Yanxi Palace <延禧攻略> star Qin Lan (秦岚) shared that her skin hasn’t always been in such good condition.
In a recent episode of the talk show A Date with Luyu <鲁豫有约一日行>, the 37-year-old actress, who played Empress Fucha in the hit Chinese place drama, shared that she once suffered from horrendous acne and skin problems during the first few years of her career.
As she reflected on the 17 years since her debut, Qin Lan said at one point she had accepted so many job offers that she only slept an average of one hour per day. Even her assistant cried from her huge workload. It wasn’t until after filming the 2009 movie City of Life and Death <南京! 南京!> when she realized that she has to slow down.
City of Life and Death was a war film based on the Nanking Massacre of 1937. Being constantly surrounded by canon smoke and fire, Qin Lan’s skin health suffered. Compounded with the fact that she was also filming another movie and was a contestant for Strictly Come Dancing <舞动奇迹> at the same time, Qin Lan exclaimed that she was in horrible physical shape.
“I was in a lot of stress, so in the end, acne filled my face.” Qin Lan said she counted nearly 200 pimples covering her face and neck. “I was disfigured. I couldn’t film anything for the next 8 months because I couldn’t wear makeup. I had to go see a doctor. I went across the country to find one.”
In the end, Qin Lan decided to remove each and every one of her pimples. “After doing all of that, I looked at myself in the mirror, and I looked disfigured. After that incident, my skin became sensitive.”
With her health at stake, Qin Lan decided to lessen her workload and only accept job offers in Beijing. Unfortunately, her popularity and career suffered as a result. It wasn’t until Story of Yanxi Palace, nearly 10 years later, when Qin Lan returned to Hengdian World Studios for work again.
