Tavia Yeung and Wayne Lai Promote New TVB Joint Venture in China
With the formation of a new joint venture between TVB and Shanghai Media & Entertainment Group (SMEG), called TVBC, the mainland market is opening up with business opportunities more than ever before. Many TVB artists will continue to film in China to “dig for gold.” This week, Kevin Cheng (鄭嘉穎), Wayne Lai (黎耀祥), Tavia Yeung (楊怡), and Myolie Wu (胡杏兒), flew to Beijing to attend a conference for the formation of TVBC.
Last year, Kevin’s popularity soared in mainland after the broadcast of the drama, Bu Bu Jing Xin <步步惊心>. Speaking of working in mainland, this year’s TV Queen, Tavia Yeung, expressed, “Of course I want to go to mainland China to earn money. After all, the mainland market is larger, and there is a bigger variety in terms of collaborations. I was contacted to film for a mainland drama earlier, but I couldn’t make it because it clashed with my other work schedule. I hope I will have chances later on.” Does Tavia wish to be like Kevin? “Wow, of course. But it depends on timing and productivity.”
Out of the four TVB artists at the TVBC conference, Wayne was the only one who has never filmed in mainland before. He said, “I couldn’t find time for it. I filmed non-stop for TVB dramas these two years. Actually, people only started to notice me after Rosy Business <巾幗梟雄>. I had to film for Off Pedder <畢打自己人> and Some Day <天天天晴> afterwards. Even if the mainland companies contacted me, I didn’t have time to film for them.”
Wayne further expressed that he prefers staying in Hong Kong with his family, although it meant giving up opportunities of filming in mainland. “Actually, there are gains and losses. If I film in mainland, then I would have to go back to there to promote for the drama later on. If I can, I wish to stay in Hong Kong to accompany my son. Going to mainland would mean giving up the Hong Kong market, and on average, it is about the same. I don’t mind filming in mainland for some communication, but I won’t be insisting upon it. Let it depend on fate!”

Somehow I am skeptical about JVs with TVB because it seems more like China putting in the funding and starring TVB stars in major roles.
Tavia should get fashion tips from Myolie. Even when Myolie at her worst still look more contemporary than Tavia at her best. Tavia gives me the 90s vibe when she is dressing up.
@Funn Lim, I agree with you! Tavia should def get some new fashion tips. I am a huge fan of hers but her style is soooo old fashion! However I still find tavia very pretty <3
Tavia seems to prefer the mature elegant look.
Tavia is pretty. Some of her clothes were not too pretty but i find nothing wrong with her black dress she was wearing.

I think it’s Tavia’s makeup which makes her look older than Myolie.

Myolie’s gown is flattery, much better than Tavia’s simple outfit… But Myolie was worst dress during the TVB anniversary award night tho~
It is not as much the gowns that Tavia wear versus the made-up face coupled with her plastic surgery and poorly coiffure hair style which makes her look terrible…

p.s : If Tavia really wants to venture into Mainland China she really need to brush up on her Mandarin! I know mainland series are usually dubbed but during video interviews u need to know how to speak and to be honest her mandarin is really not up to the standard.
imo, I think her mandarin is fine. It takes time and practice to be good, especially when it comes to language…artists who venture off to the Mainland starting with so-so mando end up being quite fluent..again, time makes a hero.
I think Tavia’s mandarin is well above standard when compared to the rest of tvb leading artists. I dont see how her current level standard of mando is at all restricting her in successfully breaking through Mainland market.

i noticed all of Tavia interviews will she said “$$$(money)” word…she should find a millionare partner as bf can tavia speak good mandarin as i no idea.. surprise that wayne has yet to film any mainland series (even when he left TVB during 90s and only back to TVB 10 years ago?
I actually quite like Tavia’s black dress in the photo here. It’s quite sleek; don’t think she looks old. (On the other hand, her Anniversary Awards look (dress + jewellery) certainly gave off an “old” vibe.)
Me too, I like her dress above. As for her anniversary dress..I think it was okay, it was the over-excess bling that she was wearing that made her whole look quite mature…her dress already had jewellery details running down the middle, yet she still wore a necklace that almost covered her entire neckline along with her bracelets. Simple is always best ! Which I believe she pulled off very well with what she wore in the above event.
agreed. Her attire and makeup during the anniversary awards made her look older than michelle yim tbh. She should dress like how she dressed for the AOD awards. Simple yet beautiful.
^agree! I thought she looked her best at the AOD awards…her hair, makeup and one colour white gown made her look more fresh and young imo (loved her white dress!). she should wear lighter colours more often. Suits her.
Wayne has always seemed reluctant about filming in the mainland whenever he’s asked about it in an interview. Wonder if he’ll do it if it’s his bosses at TVB directing him to do so as part of their company’s push into the mainland.
They looked good in the photo. Still, I prefer Myolie’s outfit and hairdo which made her look chic, fresh and cheery. On the other hand Tavia looked rather tired in her attire. Her entire dressing, dress and hairdo seem a little severe. Why hasn’t any the ladies worn a cheon-sam? It’s so elegant and shows off your figure (well, if you have one), so well. Wayne is indeed a dedicated family man and loves his son very much for he often talks about him and it is at this stage that the boy needs his father badly and Wayne realises it.When you are an actor and a family man as well you should know where your priorities lie.
