Tavia Yeung as a Female Fighter in “Noblesse Oblige”

Known for her forthright approach in life, Tavia Yeung (楊怡) gives off the impression of a strong heroine. Ironically, Tavia never had the opportunity to play an action-packed, heroic role until TVB drama Noblesse Oblige <宦海奇官>, an upcoming Qing dynasty drama produced by Lee Tim Shing (李添勝).

“It is the first action role of my career. I fight from the beginning to the end,” said Tavia. “Perhaps I’m not very flexible, but the action scenes were very difficult for me to film. Though there are certain scenes where a stunt double can replace me, I can’t do that for close-up scenes. The wire work is especially difficult, but it was fun!”

“A Great Way to Care 2” was the Most Difficult Drama

While Noblesse Oblige was physically taxing, Tavia revealed that her most difficult role was 2013’s A Great Way to Care 2 <仁心解碼2> that exhausted her the most. Portraying a troubled investigator who suffered from schizophrenia, Tavia had depression and insomnia during the filming period. She was emotionally traumatized by her role, which was something she had never experienced before in her career.

Fortunately, Tavia filmed another drama afterward, which helped her to pull out of the depressive state.

Would Rather Be a Dark Horse

In 2012, Tavia reached the peak of her career when she won Best Actress at the TVB Anniversary Awards for her performance in Silver Spoon, Sterling Shackles <名媛望族>. This year, Tavia was nominated for Best Actress for her performance in Storm in a Cocoon <守業者>, but lost to Line Walker’s <使徒行者> Charmaine Sheh (佘詩曼), one of the year’s most popular candidates.

“I’ll rather be a dark horse than a favorite,” said Tavia. “In the years where people say I have the highest chance to win TV Queen, it made me extremely nervous. I like surprises. I’m much happier if I actually win that way.”

On Her Relationship with Him Law

To protect her privacy, Tavia never talks about her love life to the media. However, after being caught in a compromising position in car with Him Law (羅仲謙) in 2012, Tavia had no choice but to admit her relationship with Him.

“I never liked to talk about my relationships, but when it comes to [Him Law]…. I think it’s very obvious. I don’t need to talk about it. If I decide to get married one day, you will be the first to know!”

  1. I’m so waiting to watch this I still think tavia could do a lot beta why did she choose him law??? Smh….how many yeas is she older than him btw..its just a question I don’t have anything against age wise

    1. around five years. Tavia was born on August 1979 and if I remember right, Him’s birthday is also in August, but was born in 1984.

    1. Do you know when this series released? I am somehow miss it because I didn’t watch it yet. Many thanks…

      1. A Great Way To Care 2 was aired in 2013. if you just type the name in there should be ones with english subs around

  2. Tavia did extremely well in agwtc2. However due to the limited screen time and character development it didn’t let her give her fully potential in her performance.

I personally thought she was outstanding in the drama.

    I’m excited for NO!

  3. It’s really great to have Tavia on screen once more, a long wait since Storm In A Cocoon. It had been a real torture watching Linda Chung and Kate Tsui, fortunately we had Charmaine in LW to save the day.

  4. I was extremely impressed by her acting in AGWTC2. I really wanted to see more of her character during when she went on her killing spree LOL her character really scared me in the shipping container scene. Too bad it was only towards the end.. Would like to see her doing more sly, evil roles, or even comedy.

  5. I thought she did really well in A Great Way to Care 2. It make me think that she would have done a much better job than Linda in Tiger Cubs 2.

Did Tavia not film a wuxai series before? I know it was like almost 10 years ago. Although I would enjoy seeing more different characters portrayed by her.

Tavia is a versatile actress and that’s what I like about her. Unlike Linda who’s only good at sweet/crying roles, I can only stand Eliza Sum when she’s being cute.

    1. Ahhh I thought that too! I think tavia could really pull off Linda’s character in tiger cubs 2 if she got the part. You can tell Linda is trying her best to act the part , but to me she doesn’t convince me :/ I don’t find her performance in the series to be natural, but over dramatic.

  6. I agree with all of you saying that Tavia did extremely well in AGWTC2. I myself don’t want Tavia to play another killer role I’m not use to seeing her like that she scare the crap out of me I didn’t know that she can do that she is really scary in that serie

  7. Her nose still bothers me. LOL Her performance in AGWTC2 wasn’t good. Too over dramatic

    1. Tavia was over-dramatic in AGWTC2? You obviously has not seen Linda Chung in TC2 or Kate Tsui in TIAD. Those two are the over-dramatic queens at TVB. Other Charmaine and Kristal, there is no other current lead actress that can hold a candle to Tavia.

      1. Yes yes, absolutely agree. Tavia is really good in all her dramas. i would say she’s even above ah sheh. In every drama, Tavia can put forth a distinctive character as required by that particular role. I dont see that in other actresses even.

      2. Well said. Totally right. Kate and Linda are over dramatic. Not natural at all. Therefore I did not continue the TIAD but still watching TC2 due to the storey line. Linda cannot act this role at all. What a shame

  8. She was indeed really convincing in AGWTC2. Did good in SIC too, which unfortunately aired too early for her to enter into the TV Queen talks.

    1. Totally agree!!!

Tavia Yeung is way better than the Snake woman who won BA award.

  9. I love love Tavia. I first love her acting since Twins of Brothers. Thought she was a natural actress and beauty. She has since improved her acting almost to petfection but somehow he looks had changed a lot too for the worse. Such a shame because i thought she was extremely beautiful before. Still a t.great actress though. Cant wait for this seties to air

  10. So far I am enjoying the first 2 episodes although sigh… kinda like typecast for a few actors/actresses. But for all its cliches and typecast, I am enjoying it. And I welcome Joel Chan back. A man with a good career will eventually find a great woman. So Joel, rather than SRK, be award winning actor!

  11. I love Tavia too!! I met her in real life and she is just so easy to talk to and funny 😛 Her acting was amazing in AGWTC2 and so far, NO is a good series as well 🙂 Looking forward to the rest of it!

  12. Can I say again, that I like Tavia? Did not pay much attention to her at first and did not know what her fans were raving about? Caught after I saw her in Mysteries of Love, then, the Other Truth, and then, Hippocratic Crust. Now I do not know what her critics are talking about. I think she is a good actress, certainly better than many of the others that TVB attempts to promote. I think she is a nice person too (seems to be a good, genuine person) but a shame about Him Law. I am sure she deserves better and can have someone better. Cannot understand her choice but guess she knows better, but still a shame.

  13. I think she has the element to be the present day Cheng Pei Pei (the marital art queen on her days): the physique, the resolute look, the style,…. Wishing her all the best.

  14. Her acting skill is good. Like her show. But somehow will look at her nose once in a while as it is getting longer and bigger especially from the side view. Her natural nose looked just nice (when watching those old drama when she was playing minor or supporting role)

    1. Agreed with you. Her former natural nose looked just as nice.
