Tavia Yeung Wants to Play Evil Roles; Unafraid of Audience Scolding Her
Tavia Yeung Yi has been acting for 7 years. She has acted in numerous series, yet her exposure and publicity has always been less than other actresses her generation. However Tavia doesn’t mind at all and would rather seek a breakthrough in the acting, willing to even play evil roles and put up with the audience’s scolding!
TVB is currently airing Golden Faith in its midnight line-up, which stars a young Tavia in an innocent role. However during prime-time, Tavia also appears with her 36D figure in Dicey Business. Through the molding of time, her acting has improved dramatically.
At TVB’s 2006 Anniversary, Tavia was nominated for the Best Actress Award for her role in Land of Wealth, competing against Charmaine Sheh Si Man and Myolie Wu Hang Yee. Acting for 7 years, Tavia has her share of audience support, however it seems as if she is still several steps away from the leading fadans. She rarely has rumors and her exposure rate is low, which makes her appear more quiescent than other actresses.
“I’m Not in the Worst Position”
Tavia said, “Perhaps the next 7 years of my exposure will continue to be light, but I would rather enjoy the process of acting and playing different characters. I dislike rumors and media exposure gives me a certain level of anxiety, as you have to answer to a lot of inquisitive people.”
“Now I have learned how to deal with the media. When I first entered the industry, I would grow unhappy if the press criticized my looks or that my make-up was bad. Over the years, I have heard everything. There are many actresses who are treated more harshly by the media.”
“You don’t have to be too mindful about entertainment news; people forget quickly. However if other actresses wear a certain cut in clothes that causes easy exposure, I will make a mental reminder to avoid wearing the same clothes. If you make mistakes, you have to learn how to correct them.” As an actress, Tavia is afraid of publicity; she appears to have a greater sense of practicality.
Doesn’t Mind Being Scolded in Public
Tavia is unfraid of taking on evil roles, even risking being scolded in public by the audience. “I want the audience to see me play different roles. More diverse experience will lead to greater choices. I have never played an evil roles before. I don’t mind going out in public and being scolded by the audience. If I continue to play the ‘good-girl characters’ as in Golden Faith, even if the audience does not become bored, I will be bored!”
Does Tavia want to take on evil roles due to award recognition? Without thinking, Tavia answered, “Each person enters the entertainment industry for different reasons. Some wish to receive awards; it is the same for me. Each year, I hope my series or roles get nominated, but I will not think about whether they win or not.”
“Near anniversary time, actresses have a lot more rumors than actors. Many people think that women have envious natures. Tavia has a tomboy-like personality and gets along easily with other people, so her rumors are far less than other actresses despite being on the nomination list.
“Continuing Strong Work Ethics”
Entering the industry for several years, Tavia has not had any significant rumors with the exception of alleged dating rumors with a wealthy boyfriend. Despite being photographed by the paparazzi with her “boyfriend” numerous times and frequent questioning by reporters, Tavia will always respond, “I am not dating; I dont’ have a boyfriend.”
Whether people believe her or not, whether her boyfriend is wealthy or not, Tavia continues to maintain a low profile. When the paparazzi grow bored of writing the same story, then they will stop. Meanwhile, Tavia continues to work hard and maintain strong work ethics, “If I can film more ads and series, then more opportunities will come by next year!”

Jayne: Tavia’s strong work ethic reminds me of Maggie Shiu in her early career. Maggie didn’t mind taking on many minor supporting roles and her work ethic was very strong too, choosing always to keep a low profile. Although I think Tavia is a little more media savy than Maggie is though….
