“The Golden Hairpin” to be Broadcast This Year?
Due to actor Kris Wu’s (吳亦凡) arrest, Chinese historical drama The Golden Hairpin <青簪行> was put on indefinite hiatus. With female lead Yang Zi (楊紫) agreeing to reshoot the drama and Peng Guanyin (彭冠英) rumored to be replacing Kris, the drama is reportedly changing its Chinese title and is expected to be given the green light for broadcasting.
The fate of the drama had always attracted attention as netizens speculated who would replace Kris. Last year, Lin Gengxin (林更新) was rumored to step in for Kris after photos of him wearing costumes for the drama. However, it was revealed that the photos were created with an AI face swap and Lin Gengxin also did not publicly confirm that he was shooting the series.
Later, Peng Guanying was rumored to be casted to re-film the drama and the Chinese name of the drama was changed to <簪中錄>. It is further rumored that investors spent nearly 400 million yuan towards the filming of the series and they are using every means possible to ensure the series can be broadcasted to recoup their investments.
The drama is expected to ramp up its publicity efforts soon, but many netizens are skeptical. Netizens note the drama still requires its final review and coordinate its broadcast schedule and hence, many netizens still believe that there is a slim chance that the drama will be aired.
