“The Imperial Doctress” Premieres February 13
After nearly two years in the storage, Tangren Media’s latest television drama The Imperial Doctress <女医·明妃传> is finally aiming for a release on Jiangsu TV and Dragon TV on February 13, 2016. The drama, which was shot in early 2014, will also be syndicated in Taiwan and Malaysia.
The 50-episode epic, directed by Scarlet Heart’s <步步惊心> Lee Kwok-lap (李国立), follows the female medic Tang Yunxian (Cecilia Liu Shishi 刘诗诗), who overcomes patriarchal barriers to practice medicine. She is thrusted into a heart-wrenching love triangle with the two imperial princes, Zhu Qizhen (Wallace Huo 霍建华) and Zhu Qiyu (Huang Xuan 黄轩), both who also vie for the Ming throne. In a society where women are seen as more subordinate than men, Tang Yunxian manages to free herself from traditional constraints and go on to become one of the most influence female physicians of the Ming Dynasty.
The Imperial Doctress will not be an accurate biopic of the historical Tang Yunxian, who in reality lived after Zhu Qizhen and Zhu Qiyu’s time. However, the drama did gain attention for its impeccable recreation of Ming Dynasty fashion and culture, which is one of the focuses of the series.
After releasing its first trailer in the summer of 2014 and a theme song video a few months later, news of The Imperial Doctress stayed relatively quiet until this week, when the studio revealed the music video for its ending theme “Until That Day” <直到那一天>, performed by Sara Liu Xijun (刘惜君). The video features never-before-seen footage of Tang Yunxian and her brewing romances with brothers Zhu Qizhen and Zhu Qiyu, which will no doubt put shippers into a conundrum.
The Imperial Doctress also stars Yuan Wenkang (袁文康), Li Chengyuan (李呈媛), and Gina Jin (金晨).

Hrm, just based on MV alone, Wallace looks like his other role from expressiom to tibbit of the romantic clips. Then I remeber he aid the two characters are very different… He looks so much older in this ome than the other one too even the other one he’s like 100s years old lol.
Woah I didn’t know Wallace was a part of this. I was about to skip this drama ’cause I’ve seen too many of Cecilia’s roles in those ancient dramas where she’s the brave, cunning type. It can get kind of redundant. And this also seemed like a copy of Dae Jang Geum, which tbh, was incredibly boring for me. But now that I know it stars WH & Tang Ren production & same director as Scarlet Heart (though this part is a little worrisome – dont want same style as Scarlet), I might just give it a go
Will tvb air it at the same time? If tvb wanted to buy China drama, at least have class like Malaysia Astro. Same day broadcast. And just put subtitles for Cantonese.
Beautiful costumes, but LSS? She’s a decent actress.
The costumes are stunning! I love Ming Dynasty costumes. LSS always seem to play the same role in every drama. I wish she’ll play a villain role for once 😛
🙁 after watching promotional trailers, seems like Wallace will not end up with LSS. Me no like, boo!!
