“The Last Dance” Leads With 18 Nominations in 43rd Hong Kong Film Awards

The 43rd Hong Kong Film Awards announced their nominations recently. Starring Dayo Wong (黃子華), Michael Hui (許冠文), Michelle Wai (衛詩雅), Catherine Chau (周家怡), The Last Dance (破·地獄), leads with 18 nominations. Despite the host of nominations, Dayo failed to be nominated under the Best Actor category.
The film explores themes related to Hong Kong’s deathcare and follows Dayo, a wedding planner, who enters the funeral industry and to understand the meaning of life and death through funeral rituals.
The Last Dance was nominated for Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Art Direction, Best Costume Design, Best Action Choreography, Best Original Film Score, Best Original Film Song, Best Sound Effects, and Best Visual Effects. Among the cast, Michael Hui and Michelle Wai were both shortlisted for Best Actor and Best Actress. The supporting cast Chu Pak Hong (朱栢康), Paul Chun (秦沛), Rachel Leung (梁雍婷), and Rosa Maria Velasco were also shortlisted for Best Supporting Actress.
Following closely behind The Last Dance is Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In (九龍城寨之圍城), with 14 nominations, and Papa (爸爸) with 11 nominations. Organized by the Hong Kong Film Awards Association, the award ceremony is scheduled to take place on April 27 this year.
