“The Price of Greed” Released Worldwide; Sammul, Bosco, Shirley & Kate Interview

Some people are greedy for money, love, and success…. If there exists greed in one’s heart, it will easily lead to one’s downfall. Even swindlers will be caught in their own web of deceit! TVB’s new series, “The Price of Greed,” starring Bosco Wong, Sammul Chan, Shirley Yeung, and Kate Tsui Tsi San was released worldwide yesterday.

In the series, Kate Tsui plays a wealthy heiress who falls passionately in love with Sammul Chan. Policeman Bosco Wong has a moving relationship with mute violinist Shirley Yeung. However, beneath the surface of these romances lies many shattering secrets.

Sammul Chan’s character borders on the boundaries of good and evil. You will not know the true identity of his character until the very ending of the series! This role is a big breakthrough for Sammul, “This is the first time I have acted in such a role. It is a new experience, but at the same time, I am afraid of the backlash from audiences! If this character does incur the audience’s hatred, then that indicates my successful portrayal. But my emotions are quite contradictory now!”

Playing Sammul’s love interest, Kate Tsui was deeply impacted by her role. “My character is very stubborn in love, to the point where she becomes very greedy for love, falling into various emotional traps.”

“My personality in real life is very open and cheerful. It is completely different than my role in the series. In order to immerse fully into my character, I had to maintain a depressed personality during filming. During that timeframe, my friends observed a dramatic change in my behavior.”

In the series, Kate has numerous crying scenes. “At first I couldn’t force out any tears, but luckily there were many veternans who gave me advice. Immersing into the character also helps. Now when I film series, I can cry non-stop!”

This is not the first time Shirley Yeung has played a character with a disability. Shirley especially learned sign language and how to play the violin for her role in “The Price of Greed.” Shirley added, “I also attended several events to observe the behavior and gestures of mute people. When they realized I will be playing a mute in the series, they expressed their anticipation of my performance!”

In her violin scenes, Shirley plays the music herself. “After filming, I felt an immense sense of satisfaction because each scene was like a concert performance for me!”

Bosco Wong, who has numerous scenes opposite Shirley, revealed the various challenges during filming. “Since Shirley plays a mute character, she needs to communicate through sign language. However I do not understand sign language and found it confusing to respond appropriately and in synch. A lot of time was spent memorizing what her various hand signals meant and the corresponding script lines.”

“I had to understand what was the best method to act our scenes together, as Shirley can not speak. In the early stages of filming, if I didn’t pay close attention, it was very easy to forget my lines in our scenes together!” However through “The Price of Greed,” Bosco was able to learn basic sign language, which was an unexpected bonus!
