Tiffany Tang on Filming for “Blossoms Shanghai”
Starring Hu Ge (胡歌), Ma Yili (馬伊琍), Tiffany Tang (唐嫣), and Xin Zhilei (辛芷蕾), Hong Kong director Wong Kar Wai’s (王家衛) series Blossoms Shanghai (繁花) aired to critical success. Besides its beautiful cinematography, the cast also received praise for their performances.
Tiffany, who portrayed Miss Wang as a close confidante of Hu Ge’s character, was praised for her acting skills and charisma. Wearing a large of pair glasses and luscious long hair, her sweet girl-next-door image was refreshing.
Tiffany had asked Wong Kar Wai how he decided on casting her. He simply responded: “Because you are you.” Tiffany recalled, “He said I was Miss Wang, so I had to fully immerse myself into my character.”
Regarding Wong Kar Wai as a mentor, Tiffany shared, “Based on our onscreen performance, the director would continuously observe and dig deeper into the personalities of each character. Listening to him narrating the story and characters would often enlighten me.”
Spending so much time with like-minded individuals and doing what she loves, Tiffany said, “After work each day, a lot of people did not want to leave. How is the work day over so quickly already?”
Filming the drama for three years, Tiffany remained engrossed in her character. She was never swayed to accept any other projects. Seeing the fruits of her labor and the audience’s positive reception, Tiffany felt fulfilled and hoped to have more opportunities for challenging roles.
