Tony Hung Calls Ruco Chan “Uncle Pang”

Tony Hung (洪永城), Ruco Chan (陳展鵬), Grace Chan (陳凱琳), and Kelly Fu (傅嘉莉) recently appeared at an event to promote TVB drama, Captain of Destiny <張保仔>. While all the cast members entertained the crowd with various activities, the spotlight was on the playful interaction between Tony and Ruco, as there have been rumors that the two are rivals and do not get along.

At the event, Ruco repeatedly made jabs at Tony in response to Tony’s cheeky behavior.

When the music video for the drama’s theme song was played and fans started cheering, Tony joined in with the cheering when his own scene appeared onscreen. Ruco immediately laughed and said, “Wow, you’re cheering for yourself?” Tony made an excuse and joked that the screams came from Grace.

In another instance, when Tony and Grace were playing a game which required Grace to demonstrate CPR on Tony, he pulled her towards him into an embrace. In mock outrage, Grace got up and poured water over Tony’s head. Ruco teased Tony, “You’re like that with her in the drama and then act like that with her here…her parents must be really tolerant!”

Tony and Ruco subsequently performed in an arm-wrestling match, where Ram Chiang (蔣志光) initially attempted to cover their arms so that the match results would not be obvious. From the side, it was however quite clear that Ruco was winning. When Ram finally uncovered their arms, Ruco had given in and made it look like the results were even between him and Tony.

Questioned about his behavior, Ruco said, “Well I’m his senior and we were just playing around. It’s good to have juniors…I hope they will work hard to catch up with us and one day overtake us. Then I can rest and do nothing.”

Asked if his words were meant for Tony to hear, Ruco said, “No no, I don’t use this tone with Tony. He calls me ‘Uncle Pang’!” Ruco explained, “He used to call me ‘Big Brother Pang’ but there is someone else in the cast who is also addressed as ‘Big Brother Pang’ [Lo Hoi Pang (盧海鵬)], so he decided to call me ‘Uncle Pang’.”

He then joked, “I really wanted to hit [Tony]! I think I will beat him up in a few weeks’ time.”

Finally, Ruco was asked if he had offered Tony some tips on acting. He said matter-of-factly, “No, he doesn’t need me to teach him anything. This is already his fourth drama – if he still hasn’t learnt anything substantial, how is he going to keep playing lead roles?!”

  1. Ooooo, I feel some “bones” in Ruco’s responses, especially the last quote. Regardless, I think Tony doesn’t deserve the role. He’s still too green in his acting plus he just doesn’t have the fierce or even a nonchalant CPT. What a waste of materials. Then again TVB was/is desperate and in need of leads.
