TVB Confirms “Armed Reaction 2020” Cast and Quietly Begins Production
TVB’s popular police series Armed Reaction <陀槍師姐> will be getting a fifth season after sixteen years, and this time, only three of the original cast members will be coming back.
The series originally starring Esther Kwan (關詠荷), Joyce Tang (滕麗名), Bobby Au-yeung (歐陽震華), and Marco Ngai (魏俊傑) first debuted in 1998, and follows the story of two policewomen who overcome discrimination in a career that is usually dominated by men. The popularity of the show has spawned three sequels, including the additions of Ada Choi (蔡少芬), Frankie Lam (林文龍), and Yoyo Mung (蒙嘉慧) in later seasons after Esther’s exit. The fourth and final season of the franchise, Armed Reaction IV, was released in 2004 and ended with a cliffhanger involving Ching Sum (Marco Ngai), who goes missing.
Sixteen years after the series finale, TVB announced in December 2019 that it will be reviving the series, renaming it to Armed Reaction 2020. Of the original cast, only Joyce Tang, Mimi Chu (朱咪咪), and Li Shing-cheong (李成昌) will be returning.
Moses Chan (陳豪) will be replacing Bobby Au-yeung as the series’ male lead, with Jessica Hsuan (萱萱) co-starring. Armed Reaction 2020 will be Moses and Jessica’s first collaboration since 2017’s Line Walker: The Prelude <使徒行者2>.
Also starring in Armed Reaction 2020 will be Him Law (羅仲謙), who will reportedly play a triad member. Tony Hung (洪永城), Lai Lok-yi (黎諾懿), Sharon Chan (陳敏之), and Gloria Tang (鄧佩儀) will also join the cast.
While Armed Reaction 2020 is regarded as a standalone story in the franchise, it is a continuation of the series with the return of several familiar characters. Filming already commenced this month.

Thought Jessica would only return for new interesting roles? Hope she’s not coming back to play an ordinary policewoman. That would be a step backwards after moving into the movie industry….
@jimmyszeto
It’s not uncommon for popular actors in China and South Korea to take on small screen jobs from to time to time which may be rewarding in dollars and opportunities. For ex, Jun Ji Hyun returning to the small screen in 2016 for the alien TV drama after like 15 years of being on the big screen. That show blew up globally, took her fame and fortune to new heights.
With that said, this is TVB, there are no better opportunities that TVB can offer that the HK movie industry can’t. This is a waste of time for Jessica.
sad that they didnt bring back bobby and YoYo mung not a fan of Lok Yi nor Him law ill give it a try for Jessica and Joyce let see how the story line will be
What a joke.
The first two instalments were great, but I don’t know how they’ll continue the story with the OGs when Bobby was the central character in AR.
Glad to see Jessica filming for TVB again. I feel like she’ll be the head of CIB or RCU cause she’s got the look for it.
Another uselessly revamped franchise with a crappy cast (Tony Hung again? Seriously?). TVB is definitely running out of ideas now. They better not try to reboot the classics from the 80s/early 90s because I’m sure that will tick many of us old-timers off.
I’m also surprised Jessica decided to return, since she had complained last time that TVB typecasts her into mostly the same roles over and over again. This is the type of mentality that I don’t get with some of these artists – they complain about the lack of depth in TVB’s scripts and the stagnancy resulting from TVB’s constant typecasting (which is oftentimes the main motivation for the artists wanting to leave)…yet when TVB invites them back to do the same typecasted roles, they jump at the opportunity. I can understand if it’s a lower-level artist who would want to get all the exposure they can, in which case, returning to TVB makes sense…but an established fa dan like Jessica who for sure isn’t short on opportunities elsewhere (meaning TVB needs her more than she needs TVB)? It’s hard for me not to lose respect for these artists….
wow this is unexpected at all… wish Bobby was back at least for cameo but this will be very interesting to see how Joyce character has involved into unless this is a total new story which has nothing to do with the original.
Jessica Hsuan coming back I guess due to China I wouldn’t be surprised more people slowly taking TVB jobs.
@vodka
What about China? China is slowly returning things to normal. Filming has already restarted in some projects.
This is crazy because no Bobby, Ada, Yoyo and Joyce two little sisters?
