TVB Jumps On Dating Show Trend

Riding on the bandwagon of reality dating shows, an advertisement draft for TVB’s upcoming variety show circulating online, tentatively titled Goddess Dating Live <女神戀愛現場>, outlined the show’s concept, hosts, and participating celebrities!

Expected to be filmed from mid-March to May and will air from June to August and spanning 12 episodes, renowned matchmaker Bob Lam (林盛斌) will assist five female celebrities in finding their ideal partners through multiple elimination rounds, assessments by close friends and even a three-day, two-night “Dating Camp”.

With such a star-studded lineup, Goddess Dating Live is set to become one of the most anticipated reality shows of the year. Fans eagerly await its premiere to see how the love stories unfold. Many praised the lineup, with Sophie Yip and Stephanie receiving the most support. 

“Singing Goddess” Joey Thye

29-year-old Joey Thye debuted as a singer in 2018 and has been heavily promoted by TVB in recent years. She has been a key member of variety shows such as Liza’s On Line <娛樂大家> and Sidewalk Scientist <學是學非>, and has also acted in dramas like Wonder Women <多功能老婆>, Murder Diary <刑偵日記>, Freedom Memories <青春不要臉>, and Forensic Heroes VI: Redemption <法證先鋒VI：倖存者的救贖>. Additionally, she has performed several theme songs for TVB dramas, successfully balancing both singing and acting careers.

“Scoop Goddess” Maggie Leung
Maggie Leung (梁敏巧) graduated from HK Shue Yan University’s Journalism and Communication program and worked as a journalist before joining the 2019 Miss Hong Kong Pageant. Although she did not place, she later joined TVB as a host for children’s program Kids, Think Big <Think Big天地> and as a field reporter for Scoop <東張西望>. She gained significant popularity by frequently sharing stylish and revealing outfits on social media, earning the title of “Scoop Goddess.” Last year, viral personality “Babyface” Mr. Wong publicly confessed his admiration for Maggie, declaring his intention to win her heart within 30 days.

“Impersonation Goddess” Carman Kwan
30-year-old Carman Kwan (關嘉敏) debuted in 2016 as the leader of the girl group Bingo. In 2020, she participated in ViuTV’s talent show King Maker III <全民造星III>, reaching the top 20 but failing to make it to the top 10. However, her talent for singing and dancing attracted a loyal fanbase, leading to new career opportunities. She later signed with Shaw Brothers and secured roles in various TVB dramas such as Let Me Take Your Pulse <你好，我的大夫>, Come Home Love: Happy Ever After, The Invisibles <隱形戰隊>, and Sinister Beings <逆天奇案>, and also impressed audiences with her spot-on impersonation performance.

“Come Home Love Goddess” Sophie Yip

32-year-old Sophie Yip (葉蒨文) entered the entertainment industry through the 2016 Miss Hong Kong Pageant. Her sweet looks and curvy figure quickly caught public attention. She became a household name through her role as “Candy” in the long-running sitcom Come Home Love: Happy Ever After <愛·回家之開心速遞>, where her on-screen romance with Mike (played by Randal Tsang曾展望) was a fan favorite. Crowned “TVB’s sexiest actress”, doubts remain over Sophie’s current relationship status as she previously revealed about being in a stable relationship with her non-celebrity boyfriend, “Pear”.

“Come Home Love” Goddess Stephanie Lee

32-year-old Stephanie Lee (李芷晴), known as the “Come Home Love Goddess,”  participated in the 2018 Miss Hong Kong Pageant, making it to the top 12 before being eliminated. However, she was still recognized by TVB and signed as an artiste. Mainly involved in variety shows and supporting roles, she gained public attention when she co-hosted the J2 lottery segment with actor Huang Xiaoming, earning the title of “Lottery Goddess.” Additionally, she played university student Fanny and later employee Elaine in Come Home Love: Happy Courier, which further increased her recognition.

In 2021, she gained even more fame when she won the grand prize of HKD380,000 at the TVB Anniversary Gala, her dazed reaction and revealing neckline creating a viral moment and unintentional eye-catching scene when hugged by Mayanne Mak (麥美恩).
